My second grader has a project to make a parachute with an egg attached and to drop it from 10 feet high and make it land. Any suggestions for the best possible materials to use and the design?

Supplies:
Egg
2 Styrofoam sheets at least 3" thick
Scissors
Knife
Duct Tape
Yard (Black) Garbage Bag
4 Pieces of yarn (8" each)
Stapler or Pins
Hole Puncher

1 - Find two Styrofoam sheets at least 3 inches thick. The length and width are not important, but I would say 6 by 6 inches should be fine.

2 - Carve a space between the two sheets to where the egg fits snugly. However, you will need to place the two sheets together, with egg sandwiched between them, so make sure the egg cavity is large enough.

3 - Place the egg between the sheets and use duct tape to secure the sheets together.

4 - Cut a 24 inch square from the garbage bag.

5 - Punch a hole in each corner, and tie one strand of yarn to each corner.

6 - Attach the loose ends of the yarn to the Styrofoam using a stapler or pins.

Start with an egg carton! They are specifically designed to protect eggs. Cut out a single section of the carton and place the egg/carton (tape the egg securely inside the carton section) inside a box filled with Styrofoam peanuts (those darn packing things). You can get packing peanuts at any shipping store (e.g. UPS). Be sure there are plenty of peanuts beneath the egg. Attach your parachute and good luck!

break the egg in half or 2/3 without completely crushing the shell, pour out the egg and wash the inside of the shell. Then with the shell upside down ie; with hole at the bottom , attach 3 threads individually to 3 corners of the rim with a good tape and then tie all three string together to a toy. heheh hope it works ; )
