Walking is a good start, as it helps rebalance the brains dopamine/seretonin pathways, (an imbalance is a contributing factor to depression).
I would suggest you get up early also, 6am is a good time. Gives you time to come to terms with the day before it officially begins. A cup (1) of strong fresh coffee (not instant) assists in creating good momentum for the day I feel also.
Consider your diet and ensure you are eating a good amount of fruit and vegetables.
Talk about it with some-one you feel comfortable with. If there is no-one like that, possibly consider seeing a counsellor, as these sessions are confidential. This may help you find out why you are feeling depressed, how long u have been experiencing it etc.
Ensure you participate in a healthy range of activities each day/week, so that you are interacting with the outside world on a regular basis. Make sure that you get some sunshine too.
If the depression is still that bad that it is preventing you from running your normal life, you may wish to consult your doctor/physician about an antidepressant, which in the short term will help you get past those bad morning starts, and in the long term keep you on the path to a full recovery and satisfying lifestyle. I personally have taken several antidepressants over the years and have found EFFEXOR XR to be the most effective treatment.
Above all, take it easy, get time off work, and just enjoy doing the things you like to do. Depression is a serious illness and not to be taken lightly.
All the best!

Not completely, but it's part of the solution. Depending upon whether your depression is Chemically or Situational caused is important to determine the best cure. Also-a HUGE impact on depression can be the talk going on inside your head. What we say to ourselves determines a lot!! If you speak to yourself in a supportive positive way, you will feel like a completely different person than you will if you speak negatively, punitively, and unkindly to yourself. It's amazing that something so simple can work so well. Also, do look into anti-depressants if you think it may be Chemical Depression.

I suffer alot of depression. I found getting out of the house a little more then usual helps. I have a history of bipolar in my family. I would suggest trying to get with a psychiatrist and talk to them a little. Just having that person that you know by law cannot repeat what you say sometimes helps.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Everyone goes through times where they are depressed. If it lasts longer than a week or two you should get some help. Personally I think if you have someone you trust it is better to 'talk' it off.

no.
i started getting depressed (majorly) about age 11. therapy, hospitals, drugs, religion, relationships... none of it worked for any significant period of time. the best treatment,(for me), was sitting down and writing a list of the positive things about myself and my life. even if they were things I just _wanted_ to be true then repeating those things to myself. emotion is preceded by thought. negative thought - negative emotion
i stopped taking antidepressants. started taking herbs - I take 6 g of ginseng a day and alternate between 2 g/day gotu kola and 2 g/day ashwagandah and I also take1000 mg/day ester C with bioflavonoids and I smoke weed at least 3x/week i've not had a depressive episode for a long time.
exercise is good for you - if you think walking will help, go for it. good luck

If the depression is a result of a chemical imbalance, walking to China won't help. If it is simply sadness with good cause, maybe a change of thought may help.

Theree is no one simple answer. For some people it works.
Depression isn't kist a mental illness, it affects many parts of the body. A pill popping solution is far too simple.

If the depression is CAUSED by inadequate exercise .... yes. If the depression has other causes .... probably not.
Think about it this way. If your house is damaged by fire, will water help? Yes.
But, if your house is damaged by wind, or rain, or an earthquake, will water help? NOPE.
