when i had c-section with son 3years ago i had no milk or pre-milk. i wanted to nurse with all my heart so they attached me to electric pump both breast at the same time to stimulate them but no luck. the only thing that i got from that was the feeling of being a cow!!! that's how i felt everytime i try nursing him. on the second night when i let my husband get some sleep at home i broke down, i felt like i wasn't in control of anything like my body, the baby, breastfeeding, on top of that my son wouldn't stop crying most likely from hunger so i ask for formula. finally after about a week my milk came in i even bought a pump by avent and it didn't work, also my son got use to the bottle and didn't want to take my breast.
i would like to try again but i'm afraid there are so many things that can go wrong like breast infection which i got that.
do you know a great book on breastfeeding that helped you?
yes i do know that breast milk is the best

C-section can sometimes interfere with the body's natural mechanism to make milk. If you have to have another one, talk to the lactation consultant and your doctor about taking some oxytocin to get things going at first. There are some really good sites with all kinds of help, La Leche League is one and my favorite in Breastfeeding.com it is really great, they even have videos on how to latch on etc. You can do it this time, keep talking to your doctor and make an appointment with the lactation nurse before the baby comes so you can get some reassurance.

My first son was also a c-section and we had troubles breastfeeding. I ended up pumping for a month and then switched to formula. My 2,3 and 4 baby's all where born naturaly (V-Bac) and I had no troubles breast feeding. The big issue I had after the c-section was the pain from the insision, and that was interfearing with the breastfeeding. I have never had an infection, we did have thrush tho... All I can say is try your hardest to be persistant and try not to offer a bottle or pacifier until atleast 6 weeks. My new baby is 9 weeks and the first night he nursed every hour and I almost gave in and got a bottle, but I kept at it and slept the next day. Be strong, keep telling yourself you can do it!

I know you posted this hours ago, but I felt so bad for you. You didn't have a good support system. I'm not talking about your husband. At the hospital they should of worked with you more. Most pregnant women have colostrum before giving birth, it's very rich and have lots of antibodies.
Sometimes women feel there is nothing happening and in all reality it is. Breastfeeding is learned not natural. So I hate that you had a bad experience. This time you will be more prepared. As far as a good book, I don't know one. Just go to the book store or contact the la leche league.

Oh sweetie, try again with this next one. I feel so sorry for you. Breastfeeding meant that much to me too. A book that I really love is called 'The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding'. I believe it's written by the La Leche League. Also, I recommend that you let your OB/GYN know that you want as much help you can get for breastfeeding at the hospital right after you deliver.
Good Luck!

Call your local La Leche League group. They are a world wide group that has chapters all over the place. You should be able to find them in your phone book. They are very supportive and the leaders are highly trained in baby care/breast feeding. They helped me get through my first child (2 years nursed) and twins ( for 20 months!)..No bottles!! I was a bit of a freak but I got through babies not wanting to latch on and infection. They really were helpful.

You stated that "there are so many things that can go wrong." Sweetie there are a lot of things that can go wonderful as well. don't get caught up in the "what if's" that will only cause you more stress. There are a couple good websites, Breast feeding 101 and Kellymom.com. Just let nature take control and enjoy your pregnancy. God bless you and congrats on the baby

My daughter had the staggering comparable. Breastfeed infants seem to get jaundiced better than bottle fed infants. Jaundice happens by using fact your infant’s physique has greater bilirubin than it could do away with. Breast-fed newborns can grow to be dehydrated unquestionably if feedings are spaced too a techniques aside. This loss of adequate milk interior the physique makes it harder on your infant to do away with wastes including bilirubin. additionally, most of the flaws that make up breast milk can replace the way the physique eliminates bilirubin. so because it is why you may desire to grant her water, i'm assuming. i did no longer get any instructions to try this nevertheless. Blood group incompatibility (Rh or ABO problems): if a sprint one has a distinctive blood type than the mummy, the mummy could produce antibodies that destroy the toddler's purple blood cells. This creates a unexpected buildup of bilirubin interior the newborn's blood. Incompatibility jaundice can start up as early by using fact the 1st day of existence. for this reason my infant had jaundice. She has type B+ blood and that i've got O. i did no longer ask the wellness practitioner what the numbers advise. My infant became into at a 9 something on her top days and the wellness practitioner mentioned it became into extreme yet no longer extreme adequate to handle it with the lights or anthing else. as long as you maintain on with the wellness practitioner's orders with the water and lights, it is going to help her ruin down the bilirubin and he or she would be waiting to be effective interior of a few week or 2. My infant is 5 weeks old now and her jaundice lasted style of two weeks.

I didn't produce much milk with my first child. With my second, I took domperidone as soon as I gave birth. You can also take fennel. I breast fed my chunky baby until she was two. Then breastfed my third for 17 months. Make sure you are getting enough rest. That was my problem the first time. Relax too. GOod luck.

You might want to consider talking to an lactation consultant. Call your local hospitals and ask for their maternity units. A lot of hospitals keep them on staff now.
Each nursing experience is different, and it could be that this one will be totally different. A lactation consultant will answer any questions you have and help with those concerns and feelings you have with past and present experiences.
Good luck and congratulations!
