Anything is possible

2007-04-30 16:53:43 · answer #1 · answered by Intuition 3 · 0 0

I will start by saying I'm agnostic. I understand that for some people, believing in the Bible is a matter of faith, and I would never tell someone that they are wrong or dumb for believing.

I have always felt that although the Bible probably does contain some facts about people, places, and events, I have never been able to buy that it is the "word of God."

All of the stories were passed down via oral tradition for hundreds of years before they were written down, and like any oral tradition, I suspect some aspects of the stories have been exaggerated and embellished.

Once the stories were committed to writing, there were several debates over what books were "cannon" and which books should be left out of the Bible. Like the recent Gospel of Judas and Gospel of Mary, both left out of the Bible. Judas because no one wanted to think of him as a good guy, and Mary's because the Church wanted to minimize the role of women in the the Church.

The Bible has gone through so many revisions, updates, and has been miss translated at times, that I just can't see how it can be seen as God's Word.

God, if there is one, is perfect. Man isn't.

So I would hope that people can see the Bible for what it is; A good book about the history of the christian faith, and filled with good advice on how to live a good life. But know that it isn't The Word of God verbatim.

Hmmmm, well that's kinda like wanting to bake something using the oven or cake batter, but not both. One kinda goes with the other, if you know what I mean.
I happen to believe that the bible is an elaborate story, nothing much more. Coming from that point of view, I don't know that I can help you much. But I do know that if you believe fully in one, the other pretty much has to come along. Some people believe in God and not the bible, but since the bible introduced God, it's the whole chicken and the egg thing.
Good luck finding the answer!

Well since "anything is possible with God" comes from the Bible (Gospel of Mark 10:27) you do have a conundrum.

To a Christian, like myself, the answer would be a resounding No! The Bible is held by Christians (Defined by scripture to be those who believe Christ died for their sins and was physically resurrected; Romans 10:9) to be the written revelation of God.

BTW only the oldest parts of the Old Testament would be Bronze age most of it was written in the Iron age

The Bible was written by the hands of men inspired by the Holy Spirit. God is perfect. He can not be wrong. So, I guess that means that man must be totally wrong if anything they believe contradicts the Bible. It has survived many generations and it is still the living word that speaks the truth to our generation. I like to refer to it as my manual on how to survive life on planet earth and discover the door to eternal life. People get ready cause Jesus is coming !

It is not just possible, it is a fact. Nor is it rocket science; I figured that out when I was eight years old. And, of course, god has nothing to do with it. (Before the Muslim audience gets too smug about this, note that the Quran is also wrong -- in part, because it accepts incorrect material from the bible.)

Hahaha. That's an interesting question. I would say yes. Of course, I already believe that the Bible is not totally right. I wouldn't say totally wrong. But it's not totally right.

No. God is infallible and omniscient (all-knowing). It is His nature to be since He exists outside of space and time as we know them to be. He, therefore, exists both before and after all of time has run its course at the same time. Since He is all-knowing, it is not possible for Him to be wrong. The only other way His Word could be wrong is if its a lie and that would be contradictory to His nature, the only thing He cannot do. It would create an insoluable paradox. If the Bible's wrong, God is wrong. Since He cannot be wrong, it must be a lie, and He cannot lie, therefore its not wrong.

If the bible is wrong, then God is wrong. Then Jesus and history are all wrong. I could get into more intricate detailing, but let me just say, to your question, NO.

The Bible is the word of God. God is capable to do anything he wishs. The fact is God is righteous it is who he is. he can not be unrighteous it is simply who he is. God is not limited in capabaility but he remains righteous because that is who he is. God is perfect and his word is truth.
