I would have her go in for a checkup, my mom (age 40) is a super super healthy eater, and runs 5-8 miles a day, but she started gaining weight, she kept cutting her calorie count, upping her running and her weight lifting but still gaining, she finally went to the doctor and they said her thyroid was going out (this can happen at any age). Have it checked out.Good luck, hope this helps

Unless she has some hormonal problem (and that's rare), the reason she is big is because she takes in more calories than she burns off. No matter what you eat, if you eat too much or don't exercise enough, you will be big.

She should get a physical to determine if she has a problem (Hypothyroid is something else to check) and if she's healthy, then she needs to really look at her diet and exercise routine.

Keeping a journal of EVERYTHING you eat is one of the best ways to learn about your diet and help you lose weight.

Good luck to her!

You can work out and not really work out. Some people in my gym make a show but never really do any work. Bottom line, when you really apply your self you loose weight, because your body is replacing fat with muscle and that burns calories. But you really have to work at it and STICK with it. The key is to stick with it. Most people start and then stop their routine. They begin but never continue. When you do that you just waist time. Your body won't really start dropping pounds if you don't stick with it for a few months. She just isn't sticking with it.

Sometimes vegetarians tend to gain weight, because they substitute proteins with carbs, or they just don't get enough protein. To get enough protein they need to eat a lot of soy products, or fish (some of them do eat fish), or they gain weight.
Some people, if they think they eat healthy, they eat big portions with no guilt. I don't know which one is your friend's case, but should be one of these.
As for exercising, I don't know what your friend does, but some people just build muscles (lifting weights) instead of burning weight. To burn weight you need to swim or do cardio.
Also, she might have big bones or just genetics.

Different metabolisms are sometimes a challenge to keep up with. Talk to your friend about colostomies and raw foods. Cleaning out the system may be in order.

A richly descriptive narrative of existence in its primal state; each and every so often existence lifts us up and drops us overboard, and survival is none too particular. we are expendable. organic selection will shelter the rest... This became an strangely reliable write Dave...

Could be hereditary.
Does she have health issues? Thyroid problems can cause someone to remain obese even though they eat right and exercise.
Is she on any medication? Some medications can cause someone to remain obese even though they eat right and exercise.

Define "big". By the way, once you've reached a certain weight, it takes much more work to lose.

Genetics, thyroid disease- it could be any number of things. Not all of us were meant to be waifs. If she is very concerned about it, she should speak with her doctor.
