I'm planning to visit the U.S. this year and I am under a pending immigrant petition (made by my dad--a green card holder). Can I obtain a tourist visa despite of my present pending status?

I am 22, single and a registered nurse (which makes me a candidate for tourist visa denial, I guess)....

You can, technically, but in reality it will never happen.

You will be denied IF you do not disclose the fact that you have a pending immigration petition, if you are not able to convince the consul that you really plan to return after your visit (sufficient ties to your country), or cannot show that you have sufficient funds to finance your trip (like no job, no money in the bank).

I know it is hard but the embassy does not deny a B2 visa just because you have a pending immigrant petition.**

An application for a tourist visa will not affect a petition for residency because the former will only used for a visit.

Not sure about your specific question, but let me tell you that the US is encouraging immigration of qualified medical personnel... you do not even need to wait for your dad's petition, as you might qualify for a Labor Certification waiver for reasons of national interest.

As long as you have a valid tourist b1/b2 visa.
Just make sure you don not volunteer this information to the immigration officer in your point of entry. You will be in trouble and can be send back.

Be honest with the Customs agents. They will want to see ties to your Country- letter from employer, proof of rent or mortgage payments, bank statements, etc. Proof that you will return to your Country. It is still up to them if they choose to allow you to go. If you have strong ties, you should be fine.

Maybe. You can but try.

We need nurses. Since when can't nurses get in?
