If only everyone did as you say.
Unfortunately, there are some religions that require their adherents to witness to others, to evangelize to others so that they may be converted and become one of the flock.
Guess which ones?

I talked to a christian once and he summed it up pretty well:
"However, I cannot apologize for believing what I
believe. If you are a Christian, it means you think
it's something real and objective for everybody; and
it means, though it's not true that everybody else and
every other religion is completely wrong, it does mean
that you think the others are wrong where they
conflict with Christianity, they must be wrong.
Christianity is not a private belief, true for me but
not for you; if it's true for me, it's true for both,
or else it's false for both. (I should note the people
who say Christianity is intolerant for saying other
religions are wrong, will then turn around and say
that Christianity is wrong because it says it's the
only way to God, and they'll somehow claim they're not
being intolerant.) So I hope I don't say anything that
offends you, that is not my goal; but I have to say
what I think is the truth."

Because so-called "religions" are not really genuine ways to get self-realisation:it's quite the contrary:it's the way to hellish planets or get animal rebirths, due to demoniac "religious"leaders using the Holy Names of prophets & God to fill their pockets by spreading diluted, concocted philosophies.
True religious paths should teach self-control of the senses, love of all living entities and mostly the Supreme Lord, who may have differnt Names according to culture.
However, the serious spiritual seeker should feel free to enquire around for the Truth and not accept "faiths" of parents, who can also be in deep darkness of ignorance.
When one prays intensely to the Lord,He certainly reciprocates and send instructions, according to one's spiritual evolution.
And keep others in darkness,as such is their own free will!

Because much of religion teaches people (from a very young age) to trust authority that may not deserve trust, to accept teachings as truth without questioning, which deprives a child of the opportunity to develop their critical thinking skills. When you are indoctrinated as a child, religion is not a choice.
My big problem with religion is a few specific areas... indoctrinating children instead of encouraging them to think for themselves... inserting their dogma into public policy and law... trying to force their 'morals' (like racism, homophobia, xenophobia) on other people's lives.

Because I don't want people to suffer in hell.
Any answer besides this must by definition come from someone who does not believe, so the question is not directed towards them. There is only one correct answer. Anyone who believes will say the same thing: "because we care about you." If you do not choose a best answer from someone who believes, then you are going to prove your bias. I don't care if it's me. Someone else beat me to the answer.

People that kill over a cartoon greatly scare me as to the teachings of religion. Some of the things they pose to teach to our children also scare me. Creationism teaches that if we do not know the answer or the answer is hard to achieve, then we can give up and attribute it to god. I think that is a horrible message to send to our young.

Those so-called religious people have been brainwashed to think that only their religion and god is right, and has all the right answers. Strange isn't it?....they still have to come here to look for answers.

Some seem to have a quota system, for others it's like a pyramid scheme. Still others feel smug and superior.
Mostly, they seem to live in such fear of life and death that
they need constant reassurance that they are right.

yeah i know what you mean..i dont' really look at the person as to what religion they are or rather if they even believe in god or not...i just meet them as who they are, their personality etc. And thatz why i don't argue because you can't really change someone unless they are willing to listen and actually be interested.

Because some of us believe there's a heaven and a hell and it's the right thing to share the good news of salvation.
