15 months is early to potty train, especially for a boy.
Wait until at least 20 to 22 months before starting.
I placed my son on a potty (they don't stand to pee for awhile)
right before his bath so he could hear the water run. Eventually, one day he peed (yeah!) and I made such a deal out of it, he tried each time before the bath and then sometimes in between diaper changes. It worked very well.
Please don't punish for accidents, only encourage at the beginning. They don't have complete control of their bladders all the time. The muscles have to be trained to hold it in.
Hope this helps,

My son will be 3 in a few weeks and I had the same questions too. First don't rush him. Get a potty chair and introduce him to it. Let him sit on it. Put books by the chair. If he is not ready, thats okay. Leave the chair there and every few weeks try re-introduce it. More and more you will see the signs that he is ready.

My son was 15 mo. when I first introduced him to the potty. He wasn't actually ready until about 2 1/2. One day he decided he was ready and we've never looked back.

As for standing or sitting:
My husband works long hours, so I was on my own too. I started him sitting. Make sure you get a potty with a tall pee guard!!!! This is the most important thing. Once he gets the hang of it. Show him he can stand and do it (this took some convincing). Summer is coming, so if you can, take him outside and let him do it there. (My son actually peed standing the first time in the bathtub.)

The most important thing to remember is to not rush him. He will do it when he's ready. Boys are usually slower than girls. (My daughter was potty trained at 15 months)

Hope this helps! Good luck!

First of all, do you really think a 15 month old even understands peeing or pooping???He is a BABY! I'm not trying to be mean.I understand that you're doing it basically by yourself.I'm doing the same thing. But if you are trying to train him now just for convenience for you,I think you will do more harm then good.Wait until he is a little older and can actually grasp the concept of going to the bathroom.I have a 4 yr old that I'm having a helluva time getting potty trained.Just hang in there sista,it will happen when it happens.

he may be a little too young but it wont hurt to introduce it to him. the best way to start is to get him a potty chair and let him explore it (take it apart, sit on it, do whatever he wants with it). every time you go to the bathroom take him in with you and tell him that you are going potty (or whatever word you want to use for it). you dont have to teach him to stand up just yet, let him learn by sitting down, it is much easier. dont push anything just yet, give him some time. you will know that he is ready to be potty trained when: he doesnt like to be in a dirty diaper, he can tell you that he needs to go, he can help undress himself, or he just sits on the potty and goes one day (thats what my daughter did, she is 20 months old)

I personally think that's too young. I tried potty training at 22 months, but her bladder justcouldn't hold in her urine for any substantial time. She would use the potty, then tinkle on the floor 5 minutes later. I'm going to try again when she's 2 1/2.

It takes boys a lot longer. When he's 2 1/2 to 3 you might have better luck. I kept my son naked with a potty close so when he peed he could see what was happening. Gradually, we moved the potty into the bathroom. We also let him watch Daddy go pee so he wanted to do it standing just like Daddy.

If he is showing signs like pulling his nappy off and playing with his willy and hiding to do number 2 he is ready. You should start by just sittinghim on the potty after each nappy change and reward him if he wees or poos in the potty. its also easier if u know when he poos, sit him on the potty at that time of day. If u do this he will eventually realise what the potty is for and you can start putting him in training pants

I recommend getting him his own potty chair and keep it in whatever room he is playing in. As far as teaching him to stand up to pee, that will come with time. Right now you are just trying to teach him to acknowledge when he has to go.

Also, get him some underwear and tell him that if he has an accident "That's ok!". Praise him when he does go potty. Make up songs about going potty. Our favorite one is from Look Who's Talking where they sing "Pee-Pee in the potty, Pee-Pee in the potty".

I think that's too young. Generally they're ready to learn at about 2 1/2 to 3 years old. Just over one is too young.

i dont think thats too young as long as youre patient. he may not get the hang of things right away. ive heard this. put cheerios fruit loops whatever he likes in the toilet, and tell him to take it out and aim his pee. lol sounds silly but i know a lot of parents that have used this method to teach their sons how to use toilet. also tell him all big boys including his dad use the toilet instead of diaper. as far as having a bowel movement, thats a bit more difficult. thats more of a verbal instruction and i would think at 15 months he is too young for that step.
