junk food and beer really will make you gain weight and a lot of it, BUT, you be gaining pounds by fat. If you really want to gain pounds quikly eat carb prodects such as Potatoes and bread, fruit and veggies are good but you won't gain anything. Also drinking protein packed drinks will help. Red meat is also great and MAKE SURE YOU EXERCISE otherwise you will not gain just weight but you will also gain fat, I know this coz I used to be anorexic and I had to gain weight. and like Tigger said it won't be instant.
P.S. Stay away from sugar ;)

Chunky Monkey ice cream (Ben & Jerry's) and snack in between meals.
Nuts, dried fruits, and yogurt are good options, but it's
important to find nutritious weight gaining foods that you will enjoy.
Protein powders and nutritional supplement drinks such as Ensure can be added as in-between meal snacks if you still need more calories.
Try snacking before bedtime, try peanut butter sandwichs.
Good Luck

Twinkies. Just twinkies. Packs of them. Put chocolat sauce on or eat with hershey's bars and them wash down with Koolaid or other high calorie beverage (like vodka).
Fried things are super calorically dense, but not healthy. Well, nothing to pack weight on is healthy. So don't.

Protein. Sugar is tempting I know, but you really need protein, and start an exercise regimen that will help you bulk up (Muscle mass weighs more than fat). Also, add high-calorie, high-nutrition drinks to your diet.
Mind you, the gain won't be instant. But it will be there.
