When a person is born again, they become a new creature. Unfortunately they are still stuck with "the old man" their flesh. If you read Romans 7 & 8 you get a good picture of the way it is. A saved person has two natures warring within them.
Which ever nature is fed more will do most of the winning.
There is no doubt that a Christian can sin. Read 1 John 1 & 2 before you get to 3.
Look at the verse you quoted, "his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin" it refers to the new nature. Our "new man" doesn't sin, but our flesh does.
The good news is God forgives and cleanses and helps us keep on walking for Him. We have become his child. He doesn't throw us out, but he will wear us out! Hebrews 12.

Just because someone calls themselves a Christian, does not mean, "all of the sudden", the are sinless no matter what they do.
Far from it.
In the verse before yours,He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
If a Christian thinks that because they are Christian they are immune from sinning, they will have a day of reckoning.
A TRUE Christian will refuse to sin. And that is possible to attain. Those scriptures are written to Spirit filled Christians.
That is why Jesus says"Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."
1Pe 4:18And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

You either are not a True Christian or you have received poor instruction... The Bible is not for those not open to the leading of God, through The Holy spirit. So there will be no understanding for those not open to God... If you come to God honesly seeking you will be guided. to what God has for you in The Bible.... To answer the question... if a person professes to be a Christian and still sins willingly and dose nothing to strive to keep from sin then that one is not truly of The Faith... ALL mortals sin... the True Christian strives not to... the only mortal flesh that was ever without sin was that of Jesus The Christ... Those of The True Christian Faith strive to be like Christ... but we know that we will not achive that in this mortal world...but we are commited to trying.

If they willfully renounced God, i think they woud regress somewhat ,but once you are baptized in spirit, The "seed" (Shakti. Spiritual energy) of the Christ is in you, The "law" has been fulled and you are no longer subject to the law. You have been set free. No more a sinner. To an onlooker you may appear to "sin" and there is a process to remove all the old habits and memory tracks of the mind. This energy of your Christed guru will Guide and protect you through this process. Until, The Christ consciousness takes virgin birth in you. This info is all in the bible ,but it is much clearer in the teachings of siddha yoga and vedanta. Jesus was a siddha yoga guru. See stephenknapp.com/articles-to-read And syda.org

A study of the Greek original reveals that a Christian cannot remain in sin, or continue in a sin.
As Christians, yes, we sin all the time.
But our Savior has died for all sin, past present, and future.

it speaks of the new man that is born of God when we get born again. Paul speaks of the old man and the new man saying...put on the new man....when we sin it is our old man that sins not our new man. So in that way that which is born of God does not commit sin. Even paul said...when I sin its not I that sins but sin that dwells in me. I know this wont go over well here because many who call themselves christians dont understand this concept.

He in His new nature hates sin and fights against it but the old nature still makes life difficult. Never the less he will not make sin a way of life.

Look at the verse right above this one. Usually when we take one verse it is out of context. If we read the 10 verses previous to it and the 10 verses which follow we can understand the one we are questioning.

no. sin will be here a long time. as humans, we have that capacity and desire to sin. we sin when we are drawn away by our own lusts and entices. so yes it is POSSIBLE for a Christian to sin, but God's children are not allowed to sin, let alone stay in it. staying in it would be like dying to Christ. fortunately, God gives you chances.
so a Christian CAN sin but is not allowed to.
