A sty is a bacterial infection of the sebaceous gland (oil gland). Like a pimple. Remove it with hot water (as hot as you can stand) on a q-tip. Press it against the sty until it drains. Do not smear, as it will cause it to spread.

A stye is an ingrown or infected eyelash. Or it's merely a clogged sebaceous (oil) gland at the edge of the eyelid.

It's more painful than serious, but offhand I don't have a remedy. You could ask your pharmacist about an OTC remedy.

It is a bacterial or viral infection of the eyelid, it's like having a boil or really hard pimple in your eye. Usually treated with antibiotic eye ointment.
