There are many reasons not to fast. The main reason would be health reasons. It may not be healthy for some people to go for a long length of time without food.
Another reason not to fast is pride. The Bible preaches against those that would fast and then mope around letting everyone know they were fasting. Fasting is to be done in secret. It is to be done to seek God on a deeper level. Perhaps one is seeking guidance and they fast during a short time so they can pray and remember that it is God that we need more than food.
Yes, I have fasted before. I did it together with a group of people. We were fasting for a day so that we could deny our flesh and seek God in prayer.
It is funny a little. I have gone almost a day with eating very light foods because I was very busy working. I had no problem... but the day I wanted to give a fast to the Lord...that was different. It wasn't easy.

Not Appropriate anything that has to do with vanity or personal gain.
I fasted( a real fast) as a collective body, our church members who were in the Easter Drama. We fasted because we wanted God's anointing on this drama for the acting, financing, and most esp. bringing in the lost souls. I personally gave up Coffee for 40 days and Oh boy, that was hard! Another time I fasted (from food) for 3 whole days and it was a great experience and I truly believe that God honored our sacrifices.
Thank you...
Pastor Hagee in San Antonio, his mother fasted dinner for 10 years to heal his brother of seizures or palsy and that prayer was finally answered...
That's the best Ive heard

I was having some problems in my marriage and some spiritual warfare and to hear better from God, so I started the three day fasts. The marriage got better and the nightmares went away and I found out the three days fats were not that big of deal. In fact a person can fast for seven days without being bilimic and thats drinking water along with chicken broth, jello in th eform of warm tea, juices, tea and coffee (they have caffeen that stimulate the appettite so watch these drinks) and lots of water! During thsi time it is best to read the bible alot and listen to good music.

I fast during Ramadan coz it's an important part of my religion and ok I gotto admit sometimes I also fast when my clothes start to feel tight!
An appropriate reason not to fast is if it will affect ur health or for a woman during the time of the month.
MOIRAES - that's not necessarily true, many women continue to fast during pregnancy. As long as she feels well enough to cope then she is allowed to.

I am a muslim. According to my religion, we have to fast from the dawn to sunset everday in the month of Ramadan (a month in the Arabic calender). In between this time we can not eat anything, drink anything and cannot do any bad thing.
The reasons are:
To feel the pain to be hungry (so that you can be kind to the poor people who have no food)
To follow the order of God.
To keep yourself away from any bad things. As we are fasting for one month, and remain away from all bad things, it becomes practiced for us. And you can not do any bad things even after that.
To save some money from the cost of food, so that you can donate it to the poor people who have nothing to eat.
To loose some weight which it better for your health.
I fast every year in Ramad, the full month. And most of the muslims do so.

It depends on your religion...
Muslims fast the entire 9th Month of the Islamic calendar, the holy month of Ramadan.
Fasting is from dawn to sunset, when a Muslim abstains from drink, food, bad language, and sexual contact, along with other things. It is a time to be generous and kind, and social with family and friends.
The purpose of fasting is to cleanse one's soul, and depart from the routine of normal life. It is also a time for thought and prayer, and reminds you of how tough life can be on those who are poor and famished.
Fasting is good for your body because it gives it a break.

To loose weight.
Yes many times. I found that my body retains salts and the build up causes me to retain water.
After a one week fast, drinking a lot of water all of these salts are washed out of my system. This makes you feel a lot better.
It takes a couple of months to build them back up, then I fast again.
Try it it works wonders, but check with your doctor before you do it. If you have problems with blood sugar you can have a serious crash.
Love and blessings Don
