There are only two things I found that are NATURAL and can actually help you fall asleep. I know I have been using them for the last 2-3 years.
If you are low on Melitonin your body needs it to sleep. You can buy it in pill form in any drugstore. It is a supplement that is natural and no real side effects. But if it does not work for you then you are not deficient so go on to my next advice.
Sleep MD sold in Walgreens Drugstore or Rite Aide is a miracle. The pills are all natural and no side effects. You must take the pill while in bed ready to sleep because if you miss the drowsy effects then you wont sleep. It can work in 5-10 minutes. It costs about $15 for 20 pills and is well worth it.
Your body needs rest.
Also remember do not use the computer up to 1 1/2 hours before your bedtime. It makes your mind work overtime scanning images and will keep you wide awake. Research has been done and I have found it to be true. Make sure you are off the computer well before bed, 2 hours is ideal.
Good Luck

This may sound really stupid but it works for me when i can't sleep. Lye in you're bed, close you're eyes and count to 100 slowly...try not to think of anything else but the numbers, that way you're mind doesn't get distracted and start thinking again. Try maybe having a warm glass of milk or a cup of tea.
If it gets too bad then i suggest you consult you're doctor, lack of sleep is very dangerous. It can cause blury vision, hallucinations and in extreme cases, seizures/convultions. The doctor my be able to prescribe you some sleeping pills. Or if you don't want them, then go to like a herbal shop and there's this tea you can buy which helps you fall asleep.
Good Luck : )

Many people suffer this problem at one varied point or another in their life, some even more than others such as possibly your case, but I know how to treat it, naturally. For a very economical price you can get natural melatonin from your local Wal-Mart in the vitamin section which helps your body to produce more natural Serotonin at bed time to enhance sleep. There are zero side effects, other than a good nights sleep, and it is non-habit forming. It is just a great vitamin supplement. Search the key word "Melatonin" on your Yahoo search engine to confirm what I'm telling you. It naturally provides me a great nights sleep every night after trying for years to sleep at night before I found this dietary supplement. I now wake refreshed and full of energy as I am only promoting my body's own ability to sleep. The best brand comes in a purple bottle from the company "Natrol" and is labeled Melatonin 5mg (1 tablet at night). Again, it is non-narcotic as it is a natural supplement and is found in the vitamin and health section at your local Wal-Mart. It's the best kept secret for sleep I've ever experienced for a great nights sleep every night. By helping the body to produce more Serotonin, which is your body's "sleep regulator " hormone, the Melatonin lowers stress, eases your mind, and thus promotes restful sleep. You may have a deficit of serotonin to begin with and would benefit greatly from this supplement.

Put the radio on really quietly and then listen out for words starting with each letter of the alphabet in order. You concentrate so hard before you know it you'll be fast off!
Good luck, not sleeping is horrible. If this doesn't work, I'd advise getting up and doing something, reading, go for a walk, watch tv then try again in a bit.

Before you go to bed, clear your mind of any negativity or questions regarding your day. Unclutter your mind from anything you can't control or is out of your control. Think pleasant thoughts. Think of someone you love, of a special place where you have been or would want to go to. Listen to a mood tape--maybe one of a rainfall or of an ocean's tide rolling in with the waves. Exchange apprehensive thoughts with ways to relax and unwind. Stay away from caffeine or sleeping pills, don't eat for several hours prior to bedtime. Close your eyes, count to 10, block out all thoughts, take slow, deep breaths, and you will fall asleep.

A bath with lavender oil. Also sprinkle some on your pillow. A warm non caffeine drink and no reading ,TV, or exercise half an hour before retiring as these keep the brain active.

Sometimes looking through the Argos catalogue used to make me feel sleepy or playing solitaire on the computer. You could try having a hot drink like hot Chocolate, hot milk etc.
