In early days (way early days), people saw spirits and gods in everything (earth spirit, water spirit, etc). Then, people had lots of gods that were kinda like us but lived in the clouds (zeus, odin, whatever). Now, people think there's just one god (I think it's because it's easier to remember just one name, but that's another question).
Is this a good thing, because soon we'll finally get rid of that one god and be done with all this nonsense?

Hey, I've always liked the great God Woden. Yeah, and what about Jupiter, Ra, Rama, Isis, Thor. Do you mean that we should just toss them into the scrap heap ?
I guess you're right , though, Wehveh has been around for a long time. He's way past his expiration date. Jesus is a close second. He's good for a few more years. Allah is 635 years younger than Jesus. I suppose we'll have to put up with his B.S. a bit longer.
You're probably wrong about getting rid of the religious nonsense. So far, every time one "god" was sent to the scrap heap, another one was right there waiting to take his place.
So long as people are afraid to face what common sense tells them will happen after death, "gods" will keep popping up.

No, not really. I'd say some of those religions had a philosophy that made a lot more sense. Or rather, I should say that their religious beliefs had them leading their communities in a way that makes more sense than the way we do it here. For instance, the ancient celts believed in both masculine and feminine forces (that were also personified as "gods/goddesses"). They saw a world in which masculine and female forces worked in harmony, and decided it should be the same for man. This allowed them to see women more as equals, and allowed them to contribute in many of the same fields as men, even allowing them to fight in battles along side men, since the "feminine" forces in nature appeared to be just as powerful as the "masculine." Christianity, on the other hand, seems to have a long history of misogynism and patriarchy.

Let's face it.....people as a whole, are weak, ignorant, and needing of something to control them. They WANT to be dominated and led, like the sheep that they ARE.....so, I really think that they are always going to invent some sort of sky-god for their "leader".
Go figure.

You contradict yourself. Believing in fairies and elves is more "fantasy" like than something as comparatively stolid as monotheism. Try "Fairytopia" on Barbie.com,it'll keep you going until the churches crumble. I'm sure that'll be any day now.

Yes soon..we shall be done with something...but not God!
This is the way of those who are foolish, And of those after them who approve their words. As sheep they are appointed for (hell) Sheol; Death shall be their shepherd; And the upright shall rule over them in the morning, And their form shall be for Sheol (hell) to consume that they have no habitation.

We are not just left with one fanstasy-god. We are also left with one fantasy-nothing, to choose from.
And there is buddhism (no fanstasy-god) and hinduism (many fantasy-gods) as well.
Is it good? Not necessarily. But it might simplify (or limit) ones choices.

many people around the world still believe in more than one god. And why does it matter? Let people worship what or who ever they want, and you do the same. I don't see why people are so insistant to impose their beliefs on others, especially those without any religious beliefs.
