Yours is an astute assessment.
I find the whole "milk before meat" thing very suspicious, as well.

I think if the prophet and apostles and other leaders used the money for themselves, someone would have found out by now and it would have caused an uproar. Mormons, like most everyone, would not tolerate that. Tithing funds are used to build churches and temples, a lot of the money goes to helping homeless people and countries in crisis (like what Haiti is going through right now), and also goes to help build and maintain church museums and monuments and such. LDS church leaders, like any other good church leaders, would not take the money and spend it on themselves.

Every year in General Conference there is a fiscal report where they detail where all the tithing money has gone. I can't remember exactly what they said last time but the tithing money is generally used for the building of temples and new church bulidings. It is also used for the up keep of church buildings. Non of it goes to the church leaders they are all living off the money that they made during there varing careers.

Why do you ask a question if you already think that you know the answer to it?
Why do care how Mormon tithing is spent if it's not your money and it's not your church???
Don't you have anything better (and more Christian) to do than sit around and hate Mormons???

The money went to me when my husband and I were jobless, homeless, starving, and when I was pregnant. The tithing paid for my rent, and food. Now I have a healthy baby, and we are financially secure. I help other families who need help by volunteering at the Bishops storehouse where TITHING goes towards building that and our money buys the food that we send out to families who ask for help.

hellno.
the Mormans are ridiculously secretive about their financial affairs. I rent a room from some folks whose son was asked to do some work on Morman computers in Salt Lake City, and he's tops in the industry. When church leaders would not give him the information he needed to do his job, he quit and returned a bunch of their money---and he is related to several Mormans and not anti-anything.
the budgets of Brigham Young U and their athletic teams are all closely held church secrets.
Most mainstream Protestant faiths are pretty open with their finances, but the Mormans are so not. It is a cult, started by a charming rogue, and practiced by many sincere, honest, sweet, intelligent, family-oriented, hard-working but slightly dim people who are very susceptable to brainwashing.

They aren't required to disclose all the information.
The church is underwriting a multi million dollar mall in downtown Salt Lake.
They said they donated to Katrina victims, but made a big deal how it was "free of charge".
They also donate copious amounts of white shirts to third world peoples so they can look good to get a "good job."
Oh,okay - they also maintain thousands of "Bishop's Storehouses" all over creation where members can pick up free food and other sundries. That's a pretty big expense.

What is it you think they ARE hiding? I mean, you can't figure it out, just by looking? Where do you think the money comes from for new chapels? temples? Salaries for employees? upkeep on church buildings? visitor's centers? historical sites? mission homes? missionary training centers? temple clothing distribution and manufacture? publishing of church literature and manuals? even an apartment for the prophet (supposedly worth six to seven figures, depending on how much the anti quoting hates the church).
So, what do you think they are hiding?

No they do not...and yes they have lots to hide.... but, like you, our congregations finances are open books to all members... the only thing kept private is who gave... and our treasurer is very good at keeping that secure. A report, in detail is provided every quarter...to the penny for all in and out.

It's for the same reason that they don't reveal to their church members all the secret rituals that go on behind the scene by the church hierarchy.
