i know religion has done some good things for the world like helping pple in 3rd world countries and providing shelters and food for homeless pple and what not but do u think the world would be better without religion. because it seems pple carry it too far and so many wars have been started over religion and so many pple have died. but pple dont need religion to tell them right from wrong do they? im and atheist but that doesnt mean i dont have feelings and cant tell right from wrong. i know that if i murdered someone it wouldnt be very nice of me because of the pain it would cause friends and family. but i dunno, maybe religion is just an excuse and no matter what, someone would alwayz find a reason to justify their actions. sry i feel like my question isnt very focused, kinda random stuff but oh well, the basic question is what my heading is.

I don't think the world would be better without religion because at least religion inspires people to do what they consider to be good - so it encourages positive change in the world (even if at times that really doesn't happen). Comparatively, if everyone was atheists, what would the world be like? I would be interested to know. The impact I see atheists have had on the world is not very positive - organisations helping people tend to be Christian, or occassionally non-religious (but never explicitly atheist. There are enough atheists around, why not an atheist organisation to make the world a better place?)
It is, however, entirely possible that religion has done more harm than good. Religion comes from people - it is human interpretation of truth/'truth'. And humans are very far from perfect. I would question whether, without religion, similar
bad things would've happened anyway, under a different name. I am sure colonisation would have happened, and slavery, and wars. Many bad things in the world go under the name of religion, but only as an 'excuse' not a reason. Basically, don't tie God, and truth, up with religion too much. Considering all the contradictory religions, if God exists, he is certainly distinct from religion as a whole. Therefore I think much of the 'bad' in the world can be linked with religion, but not directly to God

The question might be a bit too broad.
Obviously, it can be argued that the world would have been better without certain religions, but I doubt if any Western person who is at all familiar with his/ her history would argue that Europe and America, for example, would be at the advanced state of human progress they are today without the presence of the religious impulses of many of their most prominent ancestors responsible for that progress, and from which the rest of mankind has undoubtedly benefitted. And I am including in that number those who have resisted the tendencies to abuse religion in Western Civilization.
So, I would say that it would depend upon which "religions" one is talking about whether or not the world would have been better off without them.

I trust the two your statements a million and a couple of, yet keep in mind that there is additionally a fact 3: " all of the undesirable issues approximately faith could be carried out with out faith." the two Stalin and Mao proved this on a brilliant scale and on many events, and that's basically interior the 20 th century. whilst faith isn't mandatory for good issues to ensue, the absence of religion by using itself is not any assure of a extra perfect international.

i think religion is important . but religion to me seems like it is really just a big group of people who mainly have the same beliefs and stuff like that. my father is atheist and my mom is Methodist, so i am not biast in any way shape of form. i believe the world is better with religion, but i also believe being an atheist is kinda like a religion because almost all atheists have the same beliefs on the view of god.if there wasn't religion there would be no believing in anything at all.

I think the world would be better if all the people could see that there is something much greater than us that is very real. Call it energy if you will. But it's there and it's real. Take a look at quantum physics and you will see what I mean.
There is so much we do not know . . .

It would be better without people willing to kill everyone who doesn't believe as they do, without those who are willing to kill to prove their beliefs, without those willing to shun anyone who may be different and those who see it as some god given right to prevent others from having their own beliefs.
Religion, per se, isn't the problem. It's what people are willing to do in the name of their religion that causes the problems.
