I've heard some ministers encourage congregations to respond by repeating the phrase. I respond by shout "Hallelujah" which is a shout of joy, praise, and gratitude.

What are your feelings?

The inspiration of praise comes from the heart, ignited by the Holy Spirit. To some it Hallelujah, Prasie The Lord, Amen, Yes Brother Preach it, and or etc.

However, I'm not one for a minister encouraging someone to do this. Because in a lot "i feel" it is a manufactor praise and not a heart felt praise, where they repeat what the minister says.

If something is said and you feel like shouting... Let it rip!

A lot of times it will wake someone up who is asleep in church. Lol

The phrase "praise the Lord" is really a command. It is not to be said but to be done. To praise someone is to point out their positive character qualities, but to just say the phrase does nothing to glorify God if you don't actually do it. Hallelujah is exactly the same phrase as Praise the Lord, but in Hebrew. We need less people saying praise the Lord and more people doing it.

Praising God isnt a liturgy. It is a genuine heartfelt response to the move of the Holy Spirit in our lives to bring glory to God . Some may respond vocally, some may respond with tears as moved upon by the Holy Ghost. Some in silent humble prayer, some by clapping and singing , some in dancing and shouting and praising God. But let it be known that true worshippers will worship the GOD in Spirit and in Truth. But it is not ritualistic in nature. It is spiritual in nature.

The Holy Spirit allegedly frequently seems in a superior wind. everyone supposedly is time-honored with the Spirit's message too even as this happens. Ethel is only "crammed" with the Spirit and speaking in a language everyone can understand. it really is about as close because the Biblical description of the presence of God contains reality.
