progressive creationism is the belief that God created the heavens and the earth over a period of billions of years, not the six 24 hour days that is the basis for the traditional creationism view
it's an attempt by some christians to harmonize the teachings of modern science with the bible. however, the theory actually ends up supporting the tenets of evolutionary science and causes greater anxiety among believers about whether God's word can be trusted. after all, the so-called "proofs" of progressive creationism come mainly from the field of science, not from the simple teachings of the bible

If you are talking about macro evolution, then no, it is impossible. Just because the Pope "instituted" it, doesn't mean it's logical to believe in both at the same time.

No you cannot. They conflict with each other like you wouldn't believe. For one if you read the creation account in Genesis, including looking at the Hebrew, it is clear that God created the world in six, twenty four hour periods.
Also, for evolution to occur, there would have to be a lot of dead animals before we get to humans. But according to the Bible, death did not enter the world until sin did.

the idea of Evolution explains the replacing nature of residing issues, yet does no longer verify the the way it began question efficiently we may be able to work out mutations and adjustments which grant a favorable income to precise persons of their survival, and some faults that make it harder for some to live on, so organic decision is at artwork (we attempt to wrestle that with synthetic helps, yet finally those platforms give way and organisms quit to be manageable interior the present earth. The introduction tale looks to assert that God took the primordial ooze (dirt/Clay) and shaped it right into a complicated structure, after which differentiated it from different complicated platforms (the flowers and animals) Evolution looks to help that the better complexity of structure and performance provide the organism more advantageous skill to evolve to situations in that's surroundings, meaning guy is in all possibility to live on specifically different non-sentient existence, and can want to reason and deduce concepts to conquer the forces of nature and the assaults of wild creatures, and so on (Have Dominion over them...) you likely can say that neither account is perchance thoroughly self reliant of the different, no longer does one negate the different.

I don't have problems believing both at the same time. The theory of evolution describes material creation and the Bible describes spiritual creation.

No you cannot believe in a literal interpretation of Genesis and still believe in evolution.
I have heard some Christian people say that man evolved as an animal and at some point God placed a soul in the animal to create mankind, but that seems like a great stretch to me.

Evolution and creationism are not mutually exclusive. Charles Darwin believed that the first living things were created.

Trying to believe in both is a theory called "theistic evolution".
This theory simply does not stand up to scrutiny. It is a weak attempt to compromise truth.
See the attached links for articles that discuss this matter.
The first one is called, "What's Wrong with Theistic Evolution?"

Literal creation account, no.
Some rationalized version that you somehow dug up by twisting the words in Genesis, sure, go ahead.
I don't suggest doing that, you'll get a headache trying to reconcile science and religion, the two oftentimes just do not mix.

Certainly. The Bible only says that God created everything, it does not say how. Therefore, evolution is a logical theory as to how this creation took place.
