his self esteem is suffering and he is obsessed with this; I think that the more he thinks about it, the harder it becomes for it to happen. I don't know what to say anymore, I've said all of the usual things, but he just puts more pressure on himself. What can I do to help him?

Unfortunately, some kids have poor hand-eye coordination. More practice using a TEE and then having an adult pitch to him. Perhaps a lighter or shorter bat. Has his vision been checked?

Meanwhile, compliment him for the things he does well.

Have him watch some pro game so he can see that even the best have trouble hitting. I have 2 in little league and well my 12 year old is a great fielder and pitcher. When it comes to hitting he has some trouble. Just have him keep practicing. Its all about timing and he will get it one day. My 12 year old is always chosen for the team for his ability at short stop and pitching which is just as important as hitting.

Sounds like your son is interested in little league, you should continue to encourage him.

Try talking to the coach of the high school boys team and ask if there are any players who would be interested in tutuoring your son in the sport for a small fee. More practice will help your son be more comfortable playing in a game; will help his hand-eye coordination--if he gets a hit in the practice, he'll be able to relax.

Take him to batting cages; buy a glove and play catch with him.

Remind him how many times Babe Ruth struck out. 1,330 times in his career during the regular season! Keep swinging that bat! You'll get a hit!

Just tell him to relax and just play. If you know anybody to help him, then get them to help him with his swing or practice hitting. Sometimes just having someone to practice with will give him some confidence.
