It is speculated that between 7 and 10 thousand years ago the nomadic tribes of northern Africa or the Mediterranean, the Hebrew people, were goat herders and that our modern, western God was based on their YHWH or Yahweh (Jehovah, after Abraham made his acquaintance.) They practiced blood sacrifice and execution or banishment (which in those days, was about the same as execution,) for those that did not keep their law, or recognize the authority of their God.

Stories of gods have existed almost since the cave man days. Inventing a god gives easy answers if there currently are none. But most of our questions are slowly but surely getting answered and false gods have no place in the modern world except with those who are too weak to stand on their own two feet without a crutch to hold them up or people who are unwilling to accept that they do not now have the answer but that an answer will be possible eventually (just probably not in their lifetime) or people that are too lazy to question and search for a real answer.

With all due respect, I think you are wrong.

You may have been misled by your former religion, or lack of for that matter, which may have provided you with a very weak and unconvincing explanation of the unseen and may have caused you to infer that there is no God, but I personally think you should explore other monotheistic religions like Islam, which provides a more convincing, and much more logical argument of the existence of a supreme being.

If you still think that someone "invented" God, then I wish you luck in your life, and your inevitable and inescapable death. Yes, good luck!

...and thanks for the thumbs down! I was expecting that... : )

Martin if that is your real name - answer this one - you claim he does not exist - how have you gained all knowledge that he does not exist. So you are claiming what only God can claim, omniscience.

You cant prove he isnt real - the point is I can not prove it to those who are spiritually blind to the truth. There lies the whole tenor of faith. You dont believe so there is no point in discussing something you dont believe in it, else why discuss, because you refuse to accept any answer from any basis of proof available.

The revelation of God to us is always addressed to human self-consciousness and as such draws human self- consciousness out of its lonely estrangement into a new liberating communion with God. . . . It is only in and through the revelation of God that we become truly conscious of ourselves, our origin and our destiny.

"IF" God was invented and all of this came by chance then life has no meaning, no value or personal benefit.
So Why live?

I think the question should be why. I believe it is/was a way to control the masses. If you are the person who claims to have the answers, people will follow. If love and eternal life doesn't get you to follow we will throw it the fear of pain to get you to follow.

The first religions were ancestor worship or Sun worship.

I always imagine two guys walking along when one glances at the Sun and says, "I think it's watching us."
