I frequently had strep or sore throats before my tonsillectomy. I also find that having colds, allergies and sinus infections are attributable causes for my sore throats. Obviously addressing the causes for the sore throat is the main preogrative.
However, I find the following home health remedies to be very effective. Whenever, my throat is sore, i chew or suck on sore throat lozenges. I find honey mentholated lozenges from Wal-Mart to be very soothing. Sometimes applying chloramphenicol or chloramphenique to anesthetize my throat. I abstain from cold drinks for awhile.
I take a hot toddy for my colds. This is a hot drink of lemon juice with water and honey and a touch of whiskey at night. I bombard myself with lots of Vit. C. 100 mgm daily. I take antihistamincs for my sinus infection such as Benadryl or Chlortrimetron. Look for the Chlortrimetron ingredient in brand names. such as Afrin, and Contact, or Dimetapp. the generic is cheaper and is just as effective.
I also find that sucking on figs is also soothing. The following herbs are also useful: slippery elm, sage throat spray; , licorice, marshmallow, honeysuckle flower ; tea made with lemon, honey and apple cider vinegar and cayenne pepper and ginger tea.
Ginger Tea Recipe
4 cups of water
2 inch piece of fresh ginger root
optional: honey and lemon
Peel the ginger root and slice it into thin slices. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Once it is boiling, add the ginger. Cover it and reduce to a simmer for 15-20 minutes. Strain the tea. Add honey and lemon to taste.
Herbal Remedies for Sore Throat
Herbs can reduce pain and inflammation, provide temporary relief, and help heal raw throat tissues. Typical immune boosters such as echinacea and goldenseal or Oregon grape root are good to take when you have a sore throat that is caused by a cold or flu.
Garlic can also be helpful when battling illiness because it will fight off offending bacteria or viruses. Try adding it raw to your salad and other dishes.
Mucilaginous herbs can ease any sore throat. Marshmallow and slippery elm do a great job. Gargling with astringent herbs will alleviate discomfort. Raspberry or blackberry leaves along with elder flowers are good for this purpose. Combine them with marshmallow and licorice for a soothing effect.
Cayenne pepper, believe it or not, helps to stop pain, so add it to your gargling mixture. It is crucial to gargle all these herbs before swallowing them.
Whatever remedy you pick, herbal options can help soothe and heal a sore throat, whether it is the result of a cold, voice overuse or another affliction.

Have heard that regular cramping can be a sign of low sodium levels in the body. Dont go and take a spoonfull of salt though,as i also heard someone died from just one teaspoon of salt. Try a bit of salt on your dinner and see if this helps,if you know you already have a high salt intake, then you know it cant be low sodium levels, look at your diet and see what your salt intakes levels are like. You should be able to judge from this whether this sodium could be the cause or not. Easier still, look up (main causes of cramp) on the net.
