See Marky, that's not how the story goes, cause Jesus lived, so the sacrifice was not the son, you gotta solve the mystery.
Spoilers to follow, skip them if you haven't finished the book.
God sacrificed the way, the truth and the light being among men. Having it on earth must have benefited God in some way. Since every man that comes to God is Gods glory for himself (big numbers in heaven reflects well on God), and the way to God was taken from the earth.... it would follow that what God sacrificed was greater glory for himself.
I love this stuff... ;)

In ancient times, the king only ruled for so long an then his life was sacrificed for the good and continuation of his people. That is where the concept "live like a king" originated. The king could have anything he wanted, because when all was said and done, he would be sacrificed. In this telling (Bible) the king says don't take me, take my son. This is a very curious thing and I am enjoying the variety of answers posted.

If I had a sun like you and I knew if I nailed you up on a cross and had people throw spears and arrows at you it would save them all from there abonimable selves I would do it.
There were many abonimations until God sent his only begoten sun to have nails driven into his palms knees wrists and hands just to forgive you for being such an abonimation. If you stop being an abonimation and let Jesus come inside you then you to will find yourself at Gods right hand.

you're projecting your human being beliefs onto Atheists back. Atheists (and different non-Christians, you forgot us back!) do not believe that this got here about, so your question is beside the point to us. once you're asking it from a theoretical element of view, then your analogy makes no experience, until eventually the daddy of the Bruce Willis personality in Armageddon despatched the meteor in direction of earth, or the daddy of the Randy Quaid personality in Independance Day develop into the chief of the evil alien race attempting to empty the earth of its aspects. in which case, in this scenario, the daddy in question is under no circumstances infallible. Your demonstrate call contains PWNING and also you merely suggested PWNED. you keep using this be conscious. i do not imagine it skill what you imagine it skill.

Because it hurts more when something happens to your child than to your self, that is a real sacrifice, besides he gave Jesus eternal life no? so It was worth it, Jesus prove to God our father that he deserved the best from him, not like Adam and Eve that were perfect and betrayed him.................

and seriously, if you know and the son knows that even if he dies he is going to spend eternity at his right hand (cozy job) in heaven, how does that make the sacrifice in any way meaningful? And I still don't get the whole is god/is son of god thing.

That would be God. What would you sacrifice to save humanity? Don't bother it is a rhetorical question.

Watch below. You're going to be told that it was impossible for god to do this because he can't be in the presence of sin :)
Nevermind that god: A: wrote those rules and B: is "all-powerful" and could change those rules.
