I have found recipes that refence the dish both ways - I want to know which is proper?

A scallop is a shell creature or seafood.

"Scalloped", because scallop is a verb. It's the way you cut the potatoes. You would say "julienned carrots", not "julienne carrots".

But I could imagine that after a dish has been around for a long time, the -ed might get dropped.
