Just because someone does not share your views on religion does not mean they are any less intelligent than you or that they are wrong.

I can't begin to fathom what it is with people like that, if it is insecurity on thier part, or brainwashing, or what? I think that applies to "believers" and to "non-believers", I find both have thier share of people who can't get past the idea that there might be another way of looking at it, and need to press an agenda on someone else.... Wherever it originates, it is a reflection of lack on the part of someone who needs to be so judgemental in order to feel good about themselves. Whatever someone needs to help them get where they need to go, is up to them, and it should be respected.....

Intelligence has nothing to do with my reasons for putting down other peoples "religious" beliefs. It's because they're not true to Biblical scripture and should be abandoned, post haste, by an honest, intelligent scholar.
"Religions" are the core problem in todays world. God would never condone most of the things that "religious" people do in His name..
The Bible is not open to individual interpretation.
A person who is sincere in their non- or extra-Biblical beliefs is sincerely wrong. That don't make them a bad person, though.

I think it all starts with someone being offended by a religious or non-religious person. So they gotta say bad things about them, and then the other has to retaliate, and before we know it everyone is arguing about who was right. I personally keep an open mind about others religious beliefs, its no threat to me to let other people believe what they want to. I defend my ideas when they are attacked, but I don't actively look for a religion to attack myself. If we could all be tolerant and respectful of each other I think a lot of misunderstandings would be avoided. That's my opinion anyway...

I think sometimes it's fear and sometimes it's frustration. Some days are worse than others, and one of our vocal factions seems intent on being more vocal than usual. That in turn creates frustration.

As for today's flavor, why are they putting the Atheists down I can only guess and say that it's fear. They're afraid of the questions and the fact that Atheists are different. Too many "churches" these days teach that people who have different beliefs are wrong and must be chastized at all costs.

In an ideal world R&S could be a place for all sides of the Theology spectrum to get together and learn from each other. Some days we approach that. Then we have days like today.

I know, don't tell me, tell the Christians.Tell them to accept that there are some people in this world that simply don't believe in god. That doesn't mean they're bad or will go to hell. Religion is just a thing everybody does while they're alive, just like going to college or working. Nobody says you're bad because you didn't go to this college, or because you don't work in this job. Why do you gotta take it so seriously. I mean I used to be a Christian, I went to church, I prayed, I wore a cross, but simply because that's how I was raised. I knew all along this is just not real, we all do it simply because we were raised that way.

I don't "put down" belief per se. I challenge it's baseless assumptions. I don't accuse religious people of being unintelligent...some are, and some aren't.

As far as goes,
I do think that they are wrong in their beliefs, that they are gullible, deluded, credulous, irrational, illogical. A lot of smart people get fooled BECAUSE they are smart...they think the CAN'T be fooled. That is how some scientists have been fooled by the likes of Uri Geller (bad magician).

They are simply being ignorant! Fools will always be fools! Religion is not formed for a particular set of people. Its about wisdom. Wisdom is meant for everyone.
So putting down other people's religious beliefs isn't going to make them any wiser! When they realise that, it would be too late!!

Good question. I think most of the time its because people want to feel "better" than other people, and get enjoyment out of telling others they are wrong.

Personally I think certain religions are too different to get along, but I wish more people could at least try to be accepting.

See, here's the thing:

If somebody accepts the religious beliefs of another, it forces them to acknowledge the possibility that their beliefs may be wrong, and people generally don't like that feeling. (It shatters their world view.)

I only care when a religion group tries to get their "belief's" in to public institution and passed into laws.
