A Good Christian?

Question

What to you is a good christian? I mean I don't expect ot be perfect. I know we ALL sin and fall short of the grlory of God, but I feel like I should have somekind of standard or Ideal to aspire too. I'm looking for things like........
A good christian prays,I dunno twice everyday.
Or a good christian reads such and such verses or chapters of scriputre in a day. I guess maybe what I want are "attainable" christian guidelines in my life! Hope you guys can help.

An oxymoron.

Most people are good, including Christians. However, they are not good because they are Christian. If anything, Christianity, with all the other religions, has caused much more division than unity.

In fact, Christianity and other religions tend to make people morally lazy. They spoon-feed them what the clergy claims is right and wrong and discourages any real thought about why is it right or wrong. They're taught to accept "God said so" as a good enough reason.

There is a bias towards labeling Christians as "good", but it is not held up by evidence.

A good Christan trys to live there life in a Christ like manner. It's not in doing thing "religious" but in doing things in your heart are right. There is no such thing as we pray 2xday or read x scripture every day. I pray so much thru the day its unbelievable I ask God to make me be Christ like, to bless my co workers as I'm walking into the building. thank him on my way to lunch for giving a good morning. To me being a Christian is a total life commitment. That helps us decide what the right choices are. My church is very evangelical and most people wear blue jeans and now that summer is here shorts and flip flops. Other people might look at us and say something like we are not dressed for church, but God did not put us here to judge each other. He is the only judge.

A good Christian obeys and loves God. He strives to be Christ-like. A good Christian WANTS to read the Bible....the whole Bible. Not the whole Bible at once, but eventually he'll get there. A good Christian communicates with God all day long, and doesn't think twice if his 'two times/day are over'.

Well, I personally read a chapter a day out of the Bible and meditate on His word as much of day and night as I possibly can and throughout the day I just talk to GOD like I would any best friend. Take care and may God bless you spiritually.

The law of God is written in our hearts. Now it's our choice wether to do the right thing or not. I think a good christian is someone who does small things like give mony to the poor, feed the hungry, shelter the naked. You know stuff like that, it doesn't necesseraly have to be a big thing. and praying is a good thing, by praying you get to know god more, and have a closer relationship with him.

Follow what Jesus taught. Love everyone. Be understanding of why people do the things they do, if you can understand why someone does or has done the things they do, it's easier to love them, they are not bad, they have many different reasons for their behavior. Take care of people that need help. There are so many people who need help, and different kinds of help. Ease peoples suffering, there are so many hurt and lonely people. So much suffering in the world. Whenever you can, help as many people as you can. Be grateful for what you have, there are many others who don't have nearly as much as you do. I cannot stress enough to help others. This is Jesus' main message I think. Jesus didn't sit and read the Holy book alot. He knew the book, but he spent his time trying to help people, and teach love.
Don't judge people, we all have our own crap that we've done. Anyway, I think this is what Jesus would want from people. I think this is what he tried to teach us.

I think you can be a good Christian by simply trying to live your life as Jesus lived His. If you are looking for a roadmap to heaven, I can tell you what I believe and what I try to practice in my own life:

Read the scriptures daily. I try to read one chapter a day with my family and about 15-30 minutes of private study daily as well.
Pray morning and night, in private and with your family. Pray over your meals, pray when you need help, pray before you read your scriptures that you may know what the Lord wants you to learn, and carry a prayer in your heart that the Lord will walk with you.
Master yourself. Avoid temptation whenever possible, and resist temptation always. We must learn to control our thoughts, our actions, and our carnal desires.
Ask for forgiveness for your sins and remember to give forgiveness to all, even when that don't ask for it, that we may be judged with the same kindness.
Treat your body as a temple and a gift from God.
Book of Mormon, Alma Chapter 38 verses 9-15. All of Alma is good, it is the commandments of Alma (a prophet) to his son Shiblon.
" 9 And now, my son, I have told you this that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn of me that there is no other way or means whereby man can be saved, only in and through Christ. Behold, he is the life and the light of the world. Behold, he is the word of truth and righteousness.
10 And now, as ye have begun to teach the word even so I would that ye should continue to teach; and I would that ye would be diligent and temperate in all things.
11 See that ye are not lifted up unto pride; yea, see that ye do not boast in your own wisdom, nor of your much strength.
12 Use boldness, but not overbearance; and also see that ye bridle all your passions, that ye may be filled with love; see that ye refrain from idleness.
13 Do not pray as the Zoramites do, for ye have seen that they pray to be heard of men, and to be praised for their wisdom.
14 Do not say: O God, I thank thee that we are better than our brethren; but rather say: O Lord, forgive my unworthiness, and remember my brethren in mercy—yea, acknowledge your unworthiness before God at all times.
15 And may the Lord bless your soul, and receive you at the last day into his kingdom, to sit down in peace. Now go, my son, and teach the word unto this people. Be sober. My son, farewell. "
In the end, all you can do is try to learn about God and Jesus and try to follow the paths of righteousness. There is no set road to be a good person, just do your best and keep love in your heart. Try to do what Jesus would have done, He was the perfect example.

My mom has memmorized 26 of her favorite verses and recites them alphabetically to fall asleep. One night she realized she was having a tough time falling asleep because she was further down the list then she had been recently. Christians can't br good as long as they allow Saul/paul to influence their beliefs because he excused sin and created communism. That said, fight for the underdog for thats what Jesus did and no one else does.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. Love your neighbor as yourself.

don't make your faith an "act of works". In other words, don't set up a bunch of rules for yourself so that you can feel like you are a "good christian". If you love God you will talk to him often. You will share your concerns with him, and you will praise and worship him. You will thank him for all he does for you, whenever you think of it. You will read the bible often, because you want to know what God will reveal to you. You will memorize scripture because you want to remember what it says. You will give freely because you want to share the love of Christ with others. You will go to church because you want to be around fellow believers. You will try to keep his commands because you love him and you recognize that he wants what is best for you.

God judges the motivation of your heart. Your faith is a personal relationship between you and God. Don't think you can make up a set of rules so that you will be "good with God". You will not succeed, and you will make yourself miserable.
