I may have this test coming up, so I am concerned about the specifics involved. It would be cool to know what I'm going to be facing at the test, and how tough it will be. I've never had any railroad experience so I'm not sure what to expect.

If you have a bad back, fergit it.

Can you lift 50 lbs?
Can you raise your arms above your head?
Do you have full range of motion in the extremities?

Most importantly, do you have good knees? ( If going to work for the UP, you'll be spending a lot of time on them. )

Think of the Physical as very basic tests.

drug test.
50-75 weight test.
can you hang from hand holds for 2-5 minutes? supporting your own weight.
a knee exercise test. leg exercise test.
your body mass index(BMI).

and thats basically it. I suggest wearing comfortable clothes, perhaps long sleeve anything if you have something to hide;)

Come back and tell us what you had to do, will ya?
