Follow the advice from St Albert the great, on his book "de adeherendo deo" (on clinging to God), says that we should leave all images, concepts, phantasms and sensorial input outside and nude our intellect, with a nude mind focus on Him who is the only true being, the good itself, the perfection of being itself, j infinite joy and pure love itself. The infinite itself: GOD.
Wherever we are, even if we are in the bussiest crowd, we must substract from all sensual impressions and recollect to achieve first of all interior silence. Interior silence is the key, so that then our nude soul can be in the presence of the almighty God. Speak beyond words, and then just contemplate the ineffable face of God. Contemplation is the summit of the spiritual life. To achieve it you must realize that only God''s will must be your will, and that you only want that what god wants, and love God absolutely, without any shadow of self-love or love for created things.
Read also St Catherine of Siena's dialogue. Very beautiufl stuff on spirituality!

The answer will be different for everyone, but there are a few things that might help:
* make up your mind to do it. Pick a time and stick to it. If you say you are going to meditate on a passage of scripture for ten minutes, then see the entire ten minutes through, even if you are completely scattered.
* be open to various forms of prayer. There are many styles of meditation, litany, scriptural relfection, etc. If you like music, see if you can't work that into your prayer. If you write, encorporate some journaling.
* listen. Sometimes the best prayer is to simply sit quietly and just be with God.

There is something called "praying the Bible." You choose, for example, a Psalm, or a couple of verses from a Psalm. Like Psalm 23. Then you personalize it in prayer. So you might pray, "Lord please help me to look to you as my shepherd. Thank you for providing me with all I need. Thank you for leading me to peace and quietness (or please help me to seek peace and to be still in my heart). I am very broken - please restore me, help me to overcome the hurts I am dealing with." etc. You read a verse, then personalize it and pray it.
Some people don't believe in prayer or God. I would ask - what about the studies that have shown that sick people who are prayed for, who don't know they are being prayed for, get well at a higher rate than people who are not prayed for? I can personally tell you about a miracle that I experienced because of prayer if you are interested.

People pray for many things!
Money or riches.............
A better position or status in life........
Healing............
Some people want a sign from God of his existence.
Some want to hear Gods vibration as the Prophets of old did.
The list goes on & on & on......
True Prayer is when the mind has been stilled or subdued and basically you are not there. In this state one realizes that only God exists. When this takes place the channel to God has been opened. This is not an easy state to reach. This type of prayer is when true worship is born within man. It requires determination, certitude, and patience.
When this type of worship and prayer is opened, then a thing called "Wisdom" dawns in man, and allows man to view things from a totally different perspective.
May that One God allow us all to reach this state in our lives!
Peace be with you...................................

I usually pray at home, with no distractions. When I pray I pause between thoughts to concentrate on what I really want to say. I also listen for the prompting of God's spirit. And, I use His word. One of the most powerful parts of my prayer, using God's word in my prayers, as they apply to whatever I'm praying about. Also, praise of Him and acknowledgment of who He is. Always good to start out that way *smile*. There is a scripture that tells us it is because of what Jesus did on the cross that enables us to come boldly before the throne of God to obtain mercy. That scripture often comes to mind when I'm finishing my speaking to Him, and it fills me with joy and gratitude when I end up thanking Him in that manner. I think it's found in Hebrews.
God bless you.

Pray with real intent. As long as you are honest with your prayer I think that's all that matters. If you want to pray harder to gain answers to your prayers be content to take a pause and wait for the answer. Learn to recognise when God is talking to you.

In my own experience a heart thats honest and sincere seem to be the best way to pray and get close to God. God draws us closer to Him when we are real in are prayers.

prayer, I'm not sure I can help you with. the best advice I can give you is to show your appreciation for God, confess your sins and ask for His help in over-coming them, praise God, and be open in asking and conversation towards Him. approach Him with reverence but freeness, as He's your Father.
meditation is basically read, poner, re-read, ponder, etc. Meditation is really continual focus on God, His Word, etc. and hint, don't cross your legs....

Have you been baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues?
My spiritual life was greatly enhanced - especially my capacity to worship "in Spirit and in Truth" through this encounter with God.

You must do it with a pure heart, one unobstructed by material gain. Believe in the Lord, and he will set you free.
