Most definitely the Inverness area, it has everything from , friendly people, great town with loads to do, and of course you have the Scottish highlands within 10 minute drive with the most amazing scenery and loch ness.

Stirling. I fell in love with Stirling on my trips to Scotland. Other than that I'd have to say Edinburgh Castle since I've been to Scotland twice now and have yet to see the castle! I'd also love to visit the Shetland and Orkney Islands. So remote and rustic! And then there is always St Andrews. I just love all the ruins perched on the edge of the sea, threatening to collapse into it at any moment.
Isle of Skye! Ullapool! Glencoe! I really could go on and on! I love the whole place!

If you want culture and history, head to Edinburgh (though you'll pay for it), if you want to get away form it all, head to the mountains and / or the Lochs (how's about spotting the Loch Ness Monster?!) Failing that, find your own space on one of the many islands off the mainland. Scotland's one beautiful country!

Camasunary Bay, Isle of Skye, failing that, deep into the heart of Knoydart.
