In Virginia, can police officers write their relatives, ( brother, sis, cousin, aunt, etc) a ticket or is this considered a conflict of interest for Virginia? Thanks

An officer can write anyone they want, there is no conflict of interest by definition.

But if they did, I bet Thanksgiving dinner wouldn't be as jovial as it could have been.

There's no such thing as a conflict of interest as far as an officer's job is concerned. His job is to enforce the law, and he has some discretion in doing so...which he should exercise when a family member has done something that he could write them a ticket for, as someone else said, Thanksgiving may just not be the same!

A few years back my Mother got a speeding ticket on Mothers Day.
My friend was in a serious accident and the police wrote him a ticket in the hospital. (after he woke up)

A policemans job is not always easy. Some are real jerks.
But over all I'm glad they're there.
Write a ticket for a relative ? If they break the law, then yes.

any police officer can write any person who has committed an infraction. However, most police departments discourage it. Remember this is your family! Best to leave it to someone else. Any cop who does it is simply ridiculous. Can they? yes Should they?NO! Ethically and Morally wrong to do this to a family member. A police department would not reprimand an officer for not doing it. In most cases it is the officer's "discretion". An my discretion is to never to do!

Not sure, but seems like it would be a conflict of interest...
