Does anyone have a handfasting ritual? My fiancee and I are planning to go this route with our wedding and I would like some cool suggestions that we can expand upon. I can't seem to find any good rituals anywhere. Please help!!

My Love and I are planning this as well. I've also been searching for a ritual and what I've decided to is pick the person we want to handfast us first and create a ritual with them that will be more meaningful to us than some ritual from a book. We are going to incorporate the things that we do during our regular rituals that are comfortable to us and we will be having non-pagans at the handfasting and don't want to scare them off but expose them to our beliefs as well.

Bright Blessings to you!

When are you getting handfasted?

If you are that upset that she won't attend, make a point of asking her to have a serious conversation with you (without the kids around) and just ASK her why. You may not like the answer, but it WOULD be an opportunity to dispel any myths she might believe about your religious beliefs. She probably won't change her mind, though. I would consider, if having her be a part of your "marriage" is important, but she won't budge on the handfasting, inviting her family along to the courthouse to witness it. Then, maybe you can have a little dinner afterwards to celebrate, and she'll be able to celebrate with you in a way that feels comfortable to HER. And don't worry about her kids. They may not ever see any other way of religion other than what your Aunt sees, or they may be more open-minded. You never know, but it is not your duty to teach them religion. You just show them, by your actions, the best example of being a PERSON that you can, and the rest will tend to itself.

We had a nude handfasting at our favorite beach. A friend of ours is a minister and loves alternative ceremonies. After the handfasting we had a loving cup ceremony.

I belive we took the basics out of a book called "Irish Weddings."

Me and my guy are getting handfasted as well. I went out and bought the book "Welcoming Hera's Blessing", and found a few beautifully written rituals, including one that we're modifying to fit our ceremony. I'd definately suggest picking it up, if only to get a few ideas on the different rituals and ceremonies you can do!

I'm doing two handfastings this coming fall, and while I can't share the handfasting rituals I've created without the permission of the couples, I can recommend a couple of good books: "Handfasting and Wedding Rituals"

http://www.amazon.com/Handfasting-Wedding-Rituals-Welcoming-Blessing/dp/0738704709

And "Magickal Weddings"

http://www.amazon.com/Magickal-Weddings-Handfasting-Traditions-Sacred/dp/1550224611/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-9123028-9601528?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1177977345&sr=1-1

I've found both of them extremely useful.

Best of luck to you and your fiancee! :-)

I'd stay away from ANY rituals like those of the craft which you refer to:

Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
