Wow-this can be a loaded question. I think that Christianity has both positive and negative outcomes in society. I don't really think you should narrow it down to Christians, but religion as a whole. It can cause world wars, collapse governments, and lead to dictatorships or anarchy. There are many radical people in this world who choose to use a religion as a mask to hide their hate, racism, and need for control. It will attract a mass of followers that are just as bad as the person leading the particular movement.

On the positive side, Religion has helped in the fight to end poverty, has overcome evil rulers. fought disease, helped rebuild shattered communities and lives. Now, I'm not saying non-believers haven't done that because they have. Some of the worlds greatest scientists are atheists, and these people have found great cures for disease. There are many churches of all religions that band together for particular causes.

I don't think the problems or solutions in society really are limited to a particular religion, but the people who choose to follow the different beliefs. There are radicals and there are humanitarians.

Christianity through the ages have had it's positives and negatives. However, the positives surely outweigh the negatives.
For example, While Christianity was not against the slave trade, the same Christianity played a leading role in freeing of the slaves.

When everyone else pulls their support from disaster victims or forgets that they have ongoing problems and needs long after the disaster, the Christians are still there helping them.
This is the findings of a government study. Seems funny that the government is telling on themselves since they are not Christian and also pull out with the others.

More importantly they have spread truth all over the world that has delivered people from eternal suffering and given them hope for an eternity of peace and joy in the presence of God.

Jesus said "Love your neighbor as yourself". I think that is a whopper of a gift to society and if we all did love each other, what a wonderful society we would have.

But many people choose not to love their neighbor and as a result we have hate, crime, predjudice, killing, rape and the like.

Also, the 10 commandments are rules that can save our society but people keep trying to get rid of them. What a shame. All 10 are ALL GOOD.

What Christianity has done for society is irrelevant really. It wouldn't be if a society lasted longer that a person, but since souls are immortal we are more important.

The church I used to attend gave shelter to people with no homes, they fed people who had nothing and they fostered children who needed a loving home.
Many Christian groups have built schools and hospitals in third world countries, saved lives and given people hope for a future.

As for the person who said they look down on people...I have never seen so much looking down on people as I have seen in these forums, of Atheists looking down on Christians.

Christianity has changed the way people view the world. Christians do many good deeds in society today, but you know what they say, no good deed goes unpunished. The religion itself isn't bad, only when politics get involved does it get ugly.
