my mother doesn't believe that i have BD or manic depression (basically the same thing). but anyways. i'm 14 and my dad has ADD and Bipolar Disease. i don't have ADD, but i really think i have Bipolar Disease. i have frequent mood swings, at least three every day. from a very low, lagging feeling to a very high, hyper state. my mom only sees me about two hours a day, if that, so she doesnt know me that well, and wont take me to get help for Bipolar Disorder. do you think i have it? because i want to know if it's just me that thinks i have it.

When your a teen its very hard to say if its bipolar or not as us girls can have very bad mood swings. Please don't think I am saying you don't have it as you may well have it and with your add having it you are at high risk. When I was 14 no one would listen to me then 5 years later they said I was bipolar now I am 26 and doing a lot better. Also your mum could be in denial as she does not want to see that you have it or it could just be your hormones.

My wife was diagnosed with BD.She had mood swings just like you described. In her case a psychyatrist diagnosed the illnes.I think, taking into account that your father has already been diagnosed , that it would be worhtwhile to get a professional evaluation .Only a profesional and no one else is qualified to diagnose BD . An early evaluation is better than an unexpected crisis that can create a difficult situation for you and your parents. If they dont listen to you talk to a school counselor , a minister , priest or somebody in your family willing to help .Good luck

Tell a counselor or teacher at school that you want help and your parents won't listen to you. I am normally very anti meds but bipolars need meds. It takes a while to find the right meds for you and then you need to stay on them. Keep talking to teachers and other adults at school until they get you help.

Please, please find yourself a good psychologist and a pschiatrist. I lost my dad (suicide) due (in part for sure) to BPD Bipolar Disorder. I have experienced depression myself, and am now on antidepressants and talking to a therapist. The best advice I have is this: no matter how hopeless, sad, angry, lost, unloved you feel at the moment (or any other moment) THAT FEELING WON'T LAST AND YOU WILL HAVE HOPE AGAIN, HAPINESS AGAIN, SELF WORTH AGAIN. With love, someone who knows. :)

i have sumthin like it, but i dont really get depressed or nething... its more of a personality thing... sumtimes im really upbeat and loud and hyper, and other times im quiet, cool and observant, like a suave evil genius or sumthing... and i can change suddenly and at any given time really, but its kinda influenced by the people im with or places im in, too. i call it my Jekyll and Hyde Syndrome.

sounds like you want to have BD. Believe me, you don't want that. Concentrate on school, and volunteer for a charitable organization.

at fourteen, you cannot be diagnosed with bipolar disorder, you have too many hormonal changes going on. Those hormonal changes can mimic bipolar symptoms pretty closely, but they will pass as you mature.
