I know the rules for parking: align your car with the one you want to park behind, turn the wheel, reverse then STOP -This is where the problem comes, I dont know how to tell when its good enough to stop reversing and I always either wind up hitting the curb or ending up too far away from it. Is there a way to tell when its good enough ??

You should stop when the pillar between your front door, and rear door is in line with the car you are parking behinds bumper (if you have a two door, when the back of your door is aligned).

I would practice on an empty street with a friends car parked along the street and see how your car looks from the inside when it is too far or too close to the curb. Practice it over and over until you can visualize what the curb should look like when you are backing up. For example, the curb should be between where the back window starts and two inches out when you are at point x. Then when you need to do it for real you know when you are off.
