Champagne is always light and fun, and doesn't drag you down like hard liquor. Maybe a "lemon squash". I believe it's just lemonade, a tad of vodka, and club soda. My grandma wasn't a big drinker, but she kept a little bottle of apricot brandy to mix into an Old Fashioned. My aunt liked Kahlua and coffee, although the heat from the drink can send you for a loop even though it was weak.

I'd say the best thing would be to set out a non-alcoholic punch, with vodka and rum on the side and let people mix their own to their tastes.

My mother made a killer Virgin Island punch (N/A) that I loved as a kid. Adults added rum to taste. (I can probably come up with the recipe if you need it!)

I think you should make bowls of punch, you could have cranberry, rasberry and vodka and maybe some lemonade for a bit of fizz or how about tropical punch with pineapple juice, mango, lime and some white rum. Also how about blitzing some strawberries in food processer with some sweet strawberrry liquor or even strawberry cordial and mixing with sparkling wine, cava or champagne and put in a big jug with ice and sliced strawberries so people can help themselves.Sangria is another option made with red or white wine. I hope you have a fab birthday xxx.

Make up big jugs of pimms with lemonade and add lots of chopped fruit such as apples, strawberries, raspberries and oranges/lemons and slices of cucumber - very light on the alcohol (stay away from wine and champagne or limit your intake - they can be dangerous!)

How about spritzers - red or white wine, both are pretty good, as well as being light and refreshing.
