Hi Im a stylist and a National Educator for JOhn Paul MItchell systems.... whatever you do, DO NOT attempt to lighten your hair yourself at home.. it is not only a very tedious process but one that you must understand chemically in order to get the desired result. go to your stylist, and have her/him, lighten your hair in stages, and be PATIENT... your stylist is not a miracle worker and can only work within the limits of chemestry... remember that black haircolor is the hardest to remove from the hair and it will probably take numerous trips to the salon to get it back to an acceptable color, but remember it will be healthy.

You need a good color correction tech. This is delicate work. And yes you do have some regrowth. If you were in my chair I would remove some of the dark brown pigment. I would highlight through the mid lengths-ends and weave or slice out some of the root area. You will also need to be toned. This is a big, big job. It will not be done in one sitting. Your hair and pocketbook are not going to deal with it. Bring in photos so there is honest and open communication between you and the tech. You will need to maintain the look and use the appropriate shampoo, cond and cond treatments at home. Best of luck.

A monthly stripping.
Sometimes they can bleach out the color and re dye it, but thats terrible for your hair.
The safest way to go is weekly going to the salon and have them lighten it a little bit at a time. I've asked. I have dyed black hair too, and I wanted it blonde. But I didnt have the money or the patience.

The absolutely safest way is to go to a professional! I am a cosmetology student and am also naturally blonde. I decided to go to almost black and when I wanted my blonde hair back I lightened it. I ended up frying almost a half an inch off of my hair!!! So leave it up to the professionals!!!

Dying your hair dark was a really bad choice. I am in the same boat as you! I have red hair dyed it dark and my hair never grew back to red again. I have my red hair now and the only way was by stripping it. My hair is so damaged and dry from having to strip it that is is horrible to manage!
If you really want your blonde back you will have to strip your hair.

Go to a professional, but make sure to ask if your hair is can take the damage of being colored again. If she says yes, go for it. If not, deep condition it for a couple weeks and then go back.

Go to a reputable beautician and let her do the transformation. If you apply another product to your hair you might burn it and then really be in a pickle.
Your roots probably look darker because they haven't been exposed much to the sun.
