The £400 rate will apply from next March to cars in CO2 Band G - which means all cars registered on or after 23rd March 2006 with official CO2 emissions of more than 225g/km. The current rate is £300.

There are a few Vectra 2.2 SRi versions from 2006 which will fall into Band G, but the LS trim level was dropped in 2004 (some 2003 Automatic versions had CO2 emissions over 225g/km, but will have been registered before 23rd March 2006). So a Vectra 2.2i LS will not be in Band G, so will not cost £400 to tax next year.

I thought the new tax rules only applied to cars registered on or after 23 march 2006.

look here for the current rates from the dvla site.
