Gold Bond skin cream for ultra-dry skin is really good. THey also have a formula for itchy skin. Apply once in the morning before you get dressed and once after you shower at night, or reverse if you take a shower in the morning. It only costs about $5 for a big container and you can get it at any drugstore. I love it, it doesn't irritate my skin at all and makes it soft and hydrated!

hey
i have the same problem (somewhere i read 34% of females have dry or somewhat dry skin). whenever i took a bath (so basically every day) my skin would get really itchy afterwards and flaky. so here's what i do and i do not have problems:
1. use bath oils - regular baby oil in the bath is fine
2. use unscented or mildly scented lotion that's also light so it soaks right in (like Lubriderm, Jergens, and St. Ives). i stay away from thick lotion because it tends to just make my skin look and feel greasy. and whenever i try new brands i try to get 'sensitive skin' variations
3. try to make sure you shower everyday. if you don't, dead skin and flakiness can build up and when you do get in the shower it can be very unpleasant when you get out.
4. oh and once (last last winter) my skin got so flaky that even regular exfoliators didn't seem to work. i exfoliated with kitchen salt. seriously. after that my skin was so smooth.

Okay, I just went thru this. My daughter has that problem, we just went to the doctor, and we have it completely under control now.
Ask your doctor for a prescription.
Don't use anything with fragrance. Anything.
If you must, put on a thick, creamy, non-fragranced lotion (Cetaphil, Aveeno, or Dove) and then your good smelly stuff on over it.
Use Cetaphil soap. This is the best. It is pricey, but it works great.
Use Tide-Free for sensitive skin laundry detergent.
For super dry spots - get A & D Ointment. It's used for baby diaper rash, but it goes on clear.
Oh, yeah - and the doc said you have 3 minutes after you get out of the shower while your pores are still open, so try doing a light, quick pat dry and then rub on the moisturizer.
Good luck - I know how bad that sucks.

First of all, a couple of recommendations.
1. Make sure that you aren't using anything abrasive on your skin (like scrubs). Use a moisturizing shower gel.
2. When you get out of the shower, lightly "pat dry". This will leave some moisture on your skin.
3. Apply moisturizer quickly after getting out of the shower, this will capture some of the moisture before it dries off of your skin.
I love Aveeno products...all of them. Find the one that seems to match your skin type. I love the calming line!

I am a fellow sufferer. What I try to do (when I'm good about it) is to apply either a cocoa butter oil or baby oil on my arms and legs as soon as I get out of the shower. Then a moisturizer on top if you like. I like The Body Shoppe's body butters (in many lovely scents.) If you moisturize once in the morning and once before you go to bed, it should help. They also have a hemp hand protector that is good for very dry hands.

The best way to keep your skin from being dry is to exfoliate the dead skin off. Then apply a moisturizer or good lotion. If this doesn't work, see a doctor because you could have a skin disorder.

Hey Mel,
First, make sure your products do not have any mineral oil in them! You may want to do a search to find all the different names that mineral oil has. The moisturizers won't do anything for you if this is an element. Then incorporate essential oils. Do you have eczema? I would definately try the ABC baby oil and lotion from Arbonne. And make sure you get it at wholesale!

Any relief cream from Aveda is GREAT. A little pricey but will get the job done with one application and last all day long. Aveda is eco friendly, only uses natural ingredients and doesn't test on animals either.

Remember to lubricate yourself internally as well. Udo Oil - also know as Udo Erasmus Oil - look up www.udoerasmus.com, I take 4 tablespoons every am, tastes awefull, but throw it down with fresh orange juice. Or you could go for evenin primrose oil, or even codliver oil. Its a lot of what we put into our body that counts too. Apply a good lotion or oil to body whilst still damp so it traps in the moisture.
