A friend of mine and I have been trying to find information on why his mother is experiencing something no doctors around here can pinpoint or tell what's going on. Usually at night while sleeping, although less servere ones have occured during the day and awake, she experiences seizure like activity, even goes through the shaking, and rapid breathing and bites her toungue. (The less severe ones are just her being very forgetful, not being able to tell where she is, etc.) Afterword she has no recollection of it, and does quickly go to a doctor. They run scans and say she isn't having seizures, and don't know what's causing it. It originally occured about twice a year but is now becoming more and more common, about once a month. Can anyone unleash some light or give some advice on how to treat this or tests to do to perhaps unearth something and treat it?

Thanks SO much, it will mean a lot to me, my friend, and ofc ourse, his mother :)

To my knowledge, I do not have seizures but the disease I have in some people manifest itself with seizures
There can be many different symptomes and blood tests can be run to determine the disease.

Wow, are they SURE there are no seizures??? I mean, is there more sensitive equipment they can use for testing? I don't know anything about identifying seizures, but it sure sounds like that to me.

Is she on medication that could be causing a side effect like this?

Anxiety disorder? (shaking and rapid breathing) Sleep apnea? (it happening at night) Narcolepsy? (sometimes people actually lose muscle control while awake and can even fall down, etc.) . These are just wild guesses -- The tongue biting just really seems specific to seizures.

I'm sure she's seen a neurologist... if you're not in a large city she may want to travel to check out neurologists at a well-known hospital. I really hope you figure it out.

Go to a Neurologist. They'll be able to run extensive testing and tell you what is wrong. It does sound like she is having seizures though...

Is she seeing a neurologist? She needs to have an EEG, not a CT scan. It sounds like seizure activity to me, but it could be advancing alzheimer's disease. Take her to a neurology specialist.

If this only is happening at night she needs a sleep study. They'll be running a EEG to watch her brain waves., They will also be running a video and be monitoring other things such as her heart, breathing, oxygen levels, ect. Have her ask her doctor if he''ll order one.
