I was one. It was neat in a lot of ways. Nice to think every single thing that happened to me was for some mysterious reason only god knew about. I also liked the support system of other believers and to have morality set in stone - no questions.

The bad part was that every time I "thought deeply" about the real issues, I was told not to. When things didn't make sense, I was told to "have more faith". Basically cognative dissonance brought down the ship. It sucks trying to stay sane when you're forced to believe things you know aren't true.

I already know, because I was one before I became an atheist. Christianity, or any theistic belief, for that matter, is just not for me. I imagine there are quite a few atheists who once were Christian and discovered the same thing.

It would be bloody awful. Being part of such a corrupt, hateful and intolerant organisation would be terrible.

As an atheist, I like making judgements about theories based on evidence (not an old fairy tale book). I like being tolerant, open-minded and free-thinking.

Become a drone who at the same time is a holier-than-thou who feels that my way is the one true way and everyone else is going to hell. Hey, I am not the one who said that all those wrong believers are going to hell, my god said it. I have no choice but to agree. Right?
