i parked across the street from where i usually park, it's directly across the street and i got a parking ticket for being in the wrong lot. there's no signs that even says the names of the lots or which color your permit has to be, the only way to know is to go online and look at a confusing map of the areas surrounding the campus. the ticket is $30 and i'm thinking of appealing it but i don't know what grounds to appealing a parking ticket are.

If you're new to the school, yes. If not, you should know where to park by now.

Good luck with that. When I graduated, they rejected my diploma application because of unpaid parking tickets from five years before. I had spent the entire year in question in another country with the military, and didn't even own a car. I had to pay them because I didn't have the right to appeal them after 90 days past the date of the ticket.

It is most likely a parking ticket on private property which means there is no official means of appeal. You can speak to your campus police regarding the issue and they may be able to advise you as to what is the best course of action to take.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, however it is unlikely that you will be able to successfully appeal the ticket as it is issues by a private company.

My university would withhold degrees for unpaid parking tickets and library fines.

I would. School parking tickets are a joke. Just point out that you had no way of knowing since the lot was not marked. Take pictures.
