Very few who are claiming all these bugs have actually used vista, which I find hilarious.
I haven’t driven a Ferrari, but I reckon the gear box is a bit dodgy. You know?
My system:
Intel Dual Core 1.8ghz (I thought that was 4300 range, but the guy above me says it’s the 6300)
Nvidia 320mb 8800 GTS
2gb Ram
Vista Premium
I’ve also had no compatibility issues, no bugs, no serious issues. I’ve had no disadvantages from getting XP (Admittedly it came with a new Desktop as my laptop died, though I could of chose XP; glad I didn‘t.)
I’ve had no issues with games, other than PunkBuster kicking me out of a few because of the new User Account Control, which can be disabled or you run the program as “administrator” . The User Account control itself can be annoying with general right of access to create folders, delete them, things that would get tedious, however as said, it can be disabled.
I even managed to get 'Vista drivers' for an old and very cheap £20 Lexmark, now that is saying something.
It is smooth, fast, and slick, I personally like it.

I have Vista On a new Dell E520 I have 2.0GB ram.
Intel Core 2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz and a NVIDIA Ge Force 7300 LE. And this is running just fine with no compatibility issues as of yet. I think once you understand the layout of Vista you will like it for it's speed and ease of use. People are going to have to get used to technological advancements. XP is how old now soon it will be obsolete just like all the older versions of software. If you are going to purchase a new PC you get Vista with it if you are upgrading it make sure you run the wizard on Microsoft.com so you don't jump the gun. I think some people who are complaining about Vista just haven't taken the time to actually explore it to learn it yet. Did everyone buy their first PC and just know what they were doing? No, they had to learn how to use it. The same thing applies to Vista. This OS is not going to need an upgrade for at least another five years at least and about ten for a new OS. I have been using this OS since it's release and I have not had all the problems being said. Maybe I got lucky! My point is Vista is the future Xp is soon to be part of the past. Or that's the Direction I'm headed. Good luck
Hope it helps

Vista is different from win xp and other operating systems..it looks nice and fancy and it has got some additional features..i like the interface and its skins but the problem is it is still not compatible with a lots of stuffs..the hp products are not compatible with vista and even some software we use in win xp is is not compatible with vista...maybe in another two years of something the vista will be compatible with all the software and hardware...
one good thing is wen you burn a cd-r and you can erase it or burn another disc over the same disk...well it gots some good features....however, we still drivers inorder for other programs and software to work on vista
hope that helps...cheers

It is mostly personal preference and your willingness to learn. If you don't know much about using a computer to begin with, then you won't gain much from Vista. Vista has many improvements in the user interface beyond the pretty stuff. If you take the time to learn it, you'll likely enjoy it. I've been using the pre-release and the final Ultimate version for 6 months and I love it. It will give you trouble with old applications. You also need good hardware.

DO NOT BUY VISTA right nowif you can wait a year.
It has many bugs still, it is slow, and will not work with most or all fo your existing equipment (printers/fax) etc.
IF
you really want vista, only get the 32mb version th e64mb version will take ALOT longer to get teh necesarry support form third party vendors.
Any vista version will need at least 2gb of ram MINIMUM (it is a serious memory hog).
Most of your old pc games won't work, a very few will.
I said wait a year because by then, HOPEFULLY microsoft should be ready to release the first service pack downlaod for it,(sorely needed) giving pissed off vista users access to much needed driver assistance.
I
f you need more info email me.
Godo luck.

Vista is just ok at this point. There are too many incompatible products (software, hardware, peripherals) that it does not support and it will kill a computer that doesn't have enough RAM to run it. You can spend a couple thousand dollars to make sure it runs well and it will still kill it because of the high demands.
In all reality, there are some nice features, but it's not worth the price of the software plus all of the updates you will need to make to use it.

I have to agree with the person on top, I have not used it yet, but it has a LOT of problems (security, compatibility, high system req etc). The good thing is that is supports Direct X 10, and it looks nice.

I wouldnt waste my time on Vista, its slower than XP from my experience (on a 2GB dual core machine), I would stick to XP for a long time.
Many scanners, printers wouldnt work due to lack of drivers.
