The fans have proven that full cans can be a dangerous weapon in the hands of a drunken nascar fan, as they have been in other sports. Many professional sports venues only serve the "soft" plastic beer bottles, or pour it in cups. Do you think this would make the races safer?

Gee, maybe they should just raise the catch fences, & curve them not only over the track, but over the stands as well. Make it too difficult to throw things over them.

As with any sport a few ignorant people who call themselves fans want to ruin it.It won't matter if you ban beer because there was more than just beer cans bieng thrown. What would probably happen would be that security cameras would be placed everywhere.. and the real fans would pay for the others because nascar will restrict how close people are to the track and place higher fences above the stands. Real fans would show respect wether it was there driver or someone elses..
I dont think it was only because Jeff Gordon won that stuff was thrown i think fans were upset with the way it ended, figured they should have restarted it one more time.. All i can say is i hope the ones who threw things realize everyone is going to eventually pay for them doing this.

I dont know if banning beer cans at the tracks is good or bad, I know that full plastic bottles isnt any better when it comes to someone throwing things, they can hit and injure someone just as bad.... Maybe Nascar should require the track owner to hire more security??? That might help, but if they do that and it doesnt work, then quess what??? Beverages brought in, will be banned all together and all will have to pay the expensive prices of the vendors, like it or not...that is the way it is heading..Nothing we can do about it!!

I the Racewatch handout at the track at Richmond, The France family has put the warning out that if this type of behavior continues, then fans will not be able to bring any type of beverage or food in. You will be searched and will be made to discard anything that is brought in. You will only be able to drink what the supply. I was at Talledega when the latest can pitching event took place and I saw Alabama's finest escorting a handful of drunks to the lock up in handcuffs.

NASCAR is the only sports event that seems as if beverages you can close, or beverages that comes in cans are allowed.

NASCAR should take a cue from other sports, and ban them, if at the least for the time being.

beer drinkin has always been a past time at NASCAR but I also think that it is getting out of hand... the people who drink to much and act a fool are ruining it for the the people who go to the race track and drink moderatly and have a good time I think that it is time to do something before something bad happens and gives NASCAR a bad name

No way. Just arrest as many morons as you can that throw onto the track. I don't want to pay $8 for a 10 ounce beer in a plastic glass. Geez.

Ban them from bringing in any alcohol at all and charge $10 for a plastic cup, seems to work just fine at baseball games.

no i don't think they should they will find what ever and throw it anyways so they would have to ban everything, i think nascar should let it slide this time but if it happens more then ban it just becasue of a few a$$holes decided to be kids don't mean we we need to jump on a ban the can rule nascar should see there are more mature fans out there

yep that will do it,but I think nascar would rather have those offenders arrested and hauled off to jail for a night. It was mentioned that mug shots would be posted at all nascar tracks of those arrested it means it will be difficult for them to even attend a race or if they do will be watched closely for any bad behavior. A steep price to pay for venting their disdain for certain drivers.

No, I think people are getting out of control, but you shouldn't restrict everyone else. I think the track needs to control it better, as well as controling the amount of liquor people can have and where they have it. Places like Texas control this, why can't Talladega? The track needs to do their part in control, then police officers just need to start arresting them and showing them it's not tolerated. You could take away every beverage container known to man, they would still find something to throw. Taking things like that away from everyone is not the answer.
