because they have let something, (caffeine) become very powerful in their life...

Knowing the addictive nature of caffeine...why do churches serve coffee and pepsi at church gatherings, etc...thereby, enticing their members to begin an addiction?

My point is this...if something becomes so powerful in your life...that you "need" it to wake up...isn't it too powerful? Didn't it take the place of God...isn't it idolatry of sorts/

I believe caffeine is addictive, because I get a headache when I don't have coffee in the morning. It's not like caffeine clouds your mind or anything, though. It just gives you a little pick me up. Since anything that causes any joy to anyone is sinful, though, you are probably right to worry.

This is only a sin if you are LDS or some other religion that prohibits caffeine. Aspirin is a powerful need for me, but I would not think it was sinful unless I was a Christian Scientist. There is no scientific evidence that caffeine is either addictive or harmful.

So now you're trying to make my coffee indulgence a sin? Whatever for? I already commit enough sins, I really don't need another one.

Billthakat is right, if you don't like it, if you think its a sin, then don't use it, but get off our tails for it. its getting old all these holier-than-thou's trying to make everything enjoyable in life a sin. These holier-than-thou's aren't even religious most of the time, just seem to like taking enjoyment away from others. Anyone tries taking my coffee away is gonna be hurting.

It is not a sin to drink coffee or anything liquids. It is the abuse of anything that becomes a sinful nature. You can eat too much banana pudding and sin for overeating.

Oh, great, another one whose mission in life is to try and make other people, even others within their own faith/congregation, feel guilty about enjoying something.

Would it really hurt you to ask for some bottled water or lemonade, instead of trying to get something else banned or instill guilt?

I enjoy a good cup of coffee--it's one of my favorite things, but I can do without it too. It depends on the person (I don't know anyone who worships coffee :})

Without my caffeine fix, I might as well be Satan.

Too bad I'm just an atheist.
