Is there a way to stipulate that if your organs are usable-not damaged in an accident, or your body isn't found in time- that your body get donated to medical schools? I wanted to donate my organs but I'm in terrible health. My body will be better used for study and teaching I think. I'm donating mine to Mayo Clinic. There should be something for doing organ donation if possible, donating to school if not. I'm not sure.

I much prefer the idea of giving my organs to someone in need of them, that they might continue on in life.

I may have considered once giving my body to medical science, until I learned that in my brother's anatomy class he arrived to find ants had made their home in the lab, up the tables, through the nose, out the mouth, etc. Ick!

The other thing I learned sometimes happens is that the FBI might use your whole body for a crime scene school and there is this guy that will stage your body in a scene outdoors, placing maggots in your nose and stuff so that the students can learn to calculate the rate of decay among other things.

Anyway, after learning about that I decided to donate my organs for those in need. The rest of me... I'm still deciding between the wall and or cremation.

University of Tennessee, Knoxville runs the Body Farm forensics study unit; they will allow organ donation followed by "remainder" donation to The Body Farm. Shop around, there might be similar options in the med school world.

I think you could do both, but you should defiitely donate healthy organs to living people who need them. A med school might still need a body without those organs.
And, tweenthe, a lot worse things would crawl on you if your body got buried. This is why I'm going with cremation, not that it's going to matter to me one bit. I've told my kids they can toss what's left of me in a Hefty bag; won't make any difference.

You seem to be a very healthy person, you probably may live up to a ripe old age, which I think donating your organs may not be so appropriate. Say, you have a age limit to donate your organs and your body to medical science. Both will be benificial.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't. It's not like you are going to be using it anymore. Once you die the body is just a big pile of meat if you think about it. Why not let others live since you are not using it anymore.

6 of 1, 1/2 dozen the other.

It is possible for you to do both.
Some organs could be harvested as transplants.(heart, lungs, corneas, liver, kidney, bone marrow)
Some could be used for medical schools. You don't just have to donate your entire body, it could be your head, or limbs...pretty much anything you want. They are used for special display purposes, and for surgical practice.

i believe that a decision of this nature can only be made between a person, their family, and God. you should prayerfully consider what God would have them to do in regards to donating their organs upon death. if you feel led to donate your organs, then there is no reason you should not. if you don't feel led to donate your organs, you should not feel guilty about it.
