Well don't forget sucrose and fructose. Sugars can alter the behavior of the mind as well.

Keep in mind that most "illegal" drugs (heroin, marijuana, etc.,) in the US only got that way in the 20th century, so how could their use be considered a "sin," anyway? You can even get a buzz off of whole wheat bread, if you eat enough of it. Does man's law trump god's? Could it be (*gasp*) yet another means of control over the sheeple? Could it be that mind-altering drugs might open your mind to alternate possibilities to giving up your own power to a corrupt, money-hungry priesthood?

Dude. It's a sin because they're illegal.
We have many MANY legal drugs that alter your mind just as much - if not more - than the illegal ones.

Illegal drugs are just that... illegal. As Christians we are supposed to abide by the law. So, it is a sin to use illegal drugs because the law of the land has proclaimed it as such.
Legal drugs should be taken to help cure sickness, pain and/or promote healing.

Don't forget oxygen! No joke. Higher concentrations of oxygen have drug-like effects!
About tobacco (mentioned above); some medical studies are now saying that nicotine MAY help prevent Alzeimer's!

It isn't a sin because at the time the men that made up all the stuff in the bible they didn't know about illegal drugs. The all knowing and all seeing sky daddy didn't warn of crack and smack.

many people are so helplessly addicted to caffeine that they cannot function without their first cup of coffee in the morning. while this is true, it does not make drug use right.
caffeine is different - illicit drug use is an extremely effective way to destroy your health, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.

Christians are all biased. They think if they do it, its ok and their lord has allowed them the opportunity to do it. "illegal drugs, yes the lord has sent these to me to release some stress"

we are not to use illegal drugs because it is ILLEGAL we are to follow the laws of man unless they counter the laws of God. if they made marijuana legal and I needed it for my cancer I would have no problem using it.
