Wait a sec...you come here an agnostic...to the Religion & Spirituality section...and DON'T expect someone to try to share their faith with you?
What were you expecting?
If you don't like it, why do you come, when you know it's going to happen?

Hey, another Agnostic! I thought I was the only one here!
The religious try to convert all the non-believers due (I believe) to several reasons:
1. They have a duty under their religion to convert all non-believers.
2. They are so fearful of being wrong; they want to make everyone believe as they do so that they feel better because they are in the right religion (b/c everyone is joining).
3. They truly love their fellow man, and don't want to see them burn in hell.
My experience it is usually #2, sometimes #1, very rarely #3.

I'm not trying to convert you (you'll burn in hell) You can think whatever you want(God is love). There's just alot of people here that push instead of letting you find it yourself(God loves you and doesn't want you to burn in hell) LOL I hope you know I'm teasing.
Seriously though, I know I'm probably guilty of this, but I am so happy with what I believe that I want to tell everyone and see if I can't help someone find that happiness and sometimes we just don't realize what pushy right b@stards we are being.

Well, the way I look at it, they have found a happy place, and want you to join that happy place as well.
Many people, once they find that one true religion, they want to share that with others. They want all to know about it. They think it's urgent information for your life's sake.
Say for instance you were in a burning building. They knew what to tell you so you could get out safely. So they continue to tell you over and over again in hopes that you'll listen and get out.
That's how it is with false religion, or no religion at all. People think it's detrimental to your life, and want you to find the true religion so that you can be saved as well.

As my brother, who is christian told me, it is their duty as christians to bring others into God's fold, which is why he keeps trying to convert me (unsuccessfully - I left christianity in 1984).
I can't say for all, but my brother sees me as a challenge, that if he can bring me to his God then he can do anything because as he puts it "I'm just too damn stubborn for my own good". However, my little brother has much to learn about me and life in general.
Turn a deaf ear, it's not worth the blood pressure increase.

I've never tried to convert you, or anyone else. High-pressure sales techniques are annoying and don't work, whether in religion or used car lots. If you have chosen agnosticism as your path, then why waste your time worrying about what anyone else thinks about it?

It was the reason for the crusades for centuries. It is their job to save your soul. If they can't save it then they should kill you to save it further sin. They have been doing that for a couple thousand years and was why the pope supported hitler in WWII since he was doing what popes in centuries past had done. Kill anyone not saying their prayers in latin.

They are doing what they believe is right. We are often told to go prech lalala blablabla so thats what we are doing. They probably think " oh whats that? oppertunity! " or " kutos i coverted! " whatever it is we are just trying to help.

because being an agnostic, you already have one foot in the door.
There is only believer or non-believer. Any combination is still a believer.
