A Dutch converted to Islam before about three years said that he was a Christian when he was too young but when he grew up he did not like the faith of 3 in 1 so he became atheist. Later on when he visited Saudi Arabia, A Book of Holy Qurran came to his hands. He started reading it, until he realized that he finally found the Truth and became Muslim.

So, yes I think that any religion has many conflict in its basic believe, will make their follower think it is not a religion from the Great Perfect God and start to believe in Atheism or simply think of any thing except religion.

buddhism is atheist, and so is a certains sect of hinduism. But those people are still very religious. Atheism, as in non-religious, is probably a result of Christianity, but not because of the beliefs, but becuase of how intolerant the majority of the churches have become, the violent history of the catholic church and a general lack of religisou education in the West. In Christianity, if you disagree with what the church says a certain bible verse means, you are considered a Heretic. In Islam there is no central authority, allowing for some theoloigcal debate and flexibility. But it's not like hinduism, where people pretty much believe whatever they want.

Freedom of religion is not as popular of an idea in Muslim countries like it is in America. There are atheist in every country, they are probably just less vocal in Muslim countries. Atheism is a belief just like Christianity is a belief. I choose to believe there is a God, Atheist choose to believe there is not one. It can not be proved one way or another then any thoughts about God are simply beliefs. Since freedom of religion and thought is more abundant here, Atheism is more abundant here as well.

No! atheism is the result of understanding reality. In most Muslim countries atheists are executed or worse, just like they were in the 14c 15c in Christian countries. Here is a message for all the suppresses of truth.

No one chooses their beliefs only their expression of them. If you think we choose - just 'choose' to believe the oppersite. IE if you are a Christian, then for a day - just believe he does not exist. Can you do it with conviction even unto yourself? I think not.

--- The Truth will shine through however much you try to suppress it ---

I think in my country Scotland atheism is a reaction against the fanatical Calvinism of our ancestors. People got sick of their puritanical beliefs that they tried to force on others and just rejected religion out of hand as a result.

Buddhism is a non-theistic religion - it's had atheists in it for 2500 years. A little prior to Christ and christianity.

Atheists don't always live very long in Muslim countries, perhaps that's more the reason you don't find any.

In the middle ages you did not find one non-catholic walking around either. They were killed if they were identified. Some muslim countries are similar.

Atheism is mainly the result of *all* religion *and* science.

E.g.: The ToE (especially) and Big Bang Cosmology + Logic.

I'd guess most atheists in Muslim countries are headless.

However intelligent, science can't save them from the 'holy warriors'.
