i have dark patchs on my face and recently started using a product which is supposed to even my skin tone.what does that mean?

Uneven Skin Tone is caused by many different factors; Sun damage, hormonal imbalance, and skin trauma or disease. Majority of the time uneven skin tone is caused by the Sun. Simply applying a sunscreen to your face before you go into the sun will protect your skin. Also you can use a skin cream that has Vitamin C in it. This will also help you to having a more even skin tone.

It means the color of your skin and if it is dry or flaky or have blemishes, when it says that it will help your skin tone it means that it will even out your skin if you have discoloration or spots or blemishes or anything that makes your skin look uneven.

Even skin tone' means all your skin is the same shade, with the exception of freckles and beauty marks.
I don't know what product you are using, so I can't tell you how it works.
Taking vitamin/mineral supplements and eating a well balanced diet will help, too.
