Was it worth the pain, expense, and trouble?

No but I did tell my Doc, can you not just get a hammer and chisel and bang away, drain it? I saw somewhere that they are now using a different method, the balloon thing that increases the size of the opening, tubes and it seems this is working out well. I am tempted.
