I am a firm believer that there is no such thing as the best brand of shoes for everyone. There are a lot of zealots out there who will spill blood for their favorite brand of shoes, but I believe that there is only such a thing as the best shoes for you. The only way to figure out which is best for you is to try them on and go for a run. Your feet are a lot smarter than you give them credit, and they will decide which ones feel best.
That said, people come up with surveys of which brands of shoes are most popular for marathon runners (see link below for an example), and there is no question that Asics makes the most popular running shoes. Nike is firmly in #2, but other brands such as New Balance, Brooks, Mizuno, and Saucony are coming up fast. Why? Because everyone feet are different, and variety is the only way to meet everyone's needs.
Unfortunately, Adidas is not one of the main competitors when it comes to running shoes. I got a few free pairs a while back, and they were perfectly fine shoes. However, if I'm going to pay for them, I'll go with one of the other, more "battle-tested" brands.

Not a chance! I think that Asics, Brooks, Mizuno and Saucony make the best overall running shoes on the market. Forget fashion statements (Nike) or some of the trail shoes from Adidas! Find out from a local specialty running store what shoe(s) works best for YOU!

About 25 years ago I decided to get some "good" running shoes instead of the cheap things I had been wearing. I wanted New Balance because my initials are NB. New Balance is famous for having good fitting shoes. They didn't fit me. Now I only wear Sauconys. Are they the best--I don't know, but they fit great, feel good, and last forever. I probably have 10 pairs now--whenever they are on sale I buy a couple.

I wouldn't personally go with either brand. I feel that they go more for looks tha quality however running shoes are like finding your favorite pair of jeans. Each person likes a different style and fit than the next person. What works for some doesn't always work for the others.
If you're looking to buy a pair of running shoes, try a few on at the store and jog around the store a bit. If you do find a pair and you still don't know, use them to jog on a treadmill so that theey don't get dirty and if you don't like them you can still return them.
Best of luck!

Right at the moment I am wearing Adidas, but have to say the Asics are my personal favorite and I am going back to them. Each shoe is different and each of us have different feet so a shoe that I like you may hate.

You must find the shoe that fits you. Each company makes lots of different models. Sometimes they make good shoes and sometimes they make poor shoes. I have had bad shoes made by every company. Don't get locked into a particular brand until you find what is best for your feet and the type of running you do.

Each shoe is different. it all depends on the needs of your foot and what type of running shoe you are looking for. The best thing to do is to go to a running store and get your feet set up with the right shoe. Another thing you can do is go to runnersworld.com or coolrunning.com and they have shoe buyers guides for the best shoes from each shoe company.

for running? no.
every company is different, they all specialize in different things, and every runner (or other sports person) has their own favorites.
Nike makes a great basketball shoe, but their running shoes arent that good.
New Balance and Asics make great running shoes, but their shoes for other sports arent as good.
Adidas specialized in soccer shoes for a while, but their running shoes are starting to get better.
